PetVille game cards now in a store near you

Posted: 09 Aug 2010 05:24 PM PDT

Filed under:

Zynga have now released brand new game cards at Gamestop and 7/11. Previously, only FarmVille, Mafia Wars, and Cafe World game cards were available, but now PetVille and Treasure Isle cards are available as well. These cards come in $10.00 and $25.00 denominations and are redeemed online. PetVille fans, you'll be happy to know that there is an exclusive in-game mascot reward for redeeming your game cards in PetVille. So far, no such deal has been announced in Treasure Isle, but that doesn't mean that one isn't coming soon.

Game cards provide an easy alternative for getting Pet Cash, especially for those people who don't have access to credit cards. Instead of partaking in offers that may or may not successfully pay off, game cards guarantee that you'll be able to redeem them for in-game cash. They also make perfect gifts for the Zynga game fan in your life. These cards can be redeemed in any Zynga game (not just PetVille and Treasure Isle) but you will only get the bonus mascot pet if you redeem yours in PetVille.

Have you redeemed a game card? What does the PetVille Mascot look like in your pet's home?

Happy Aquarium new Gamebar Guide: How to get the Rare Rainbow Shark

Posted: 09 Aug 2010 01:30 PM PDT

Filed under:

Happy Aquarium Rare Rainbow Shark pop-up window
Back in April, Crowdstar promoted its Gamebar through Happy Aquarium, offering 10 free Pearls to those willing to install it. This time around, random players who start their game are getting a pop-up window advertising the Gamebar with the Rare Rainbow Shark.
Crowdstar Gamebar offers free Rare Rainbow Shark

Since not everyone is getting this notice, you should grab the Gamebar by clicking here to go directly to the official download page. Next, click on "Download Gamebar" for a 2.4MB file with the name: FFCrowdstarToolbarInstaller_CDS_tbr_1.9.0.0.exe
Crowdstar Gamebar uncheck Ask box
(NOTE: I recommend unchecking the box for "Make Ask my browser default search provider" because if you're after the shark, you really don't need it.)

Judging by the file name, you should be able to tell that this Gamebar is a newer edition than the one released in April, so maybe you'd want to keep it around to test it out.

After you've downloaded the Gamebar, double-click on it to run installation, then restart your browser. When you log back in, you should see the image below. Click on "Get My Shark!" and you'll get a baby Rare Rainbow Shark in your tank.
Happy Aquarium: Get My Shark!
And just like the first time around, the game should reward you with an additional 20 Coins for your trouble. Now, if you want to uninstall it, here's what you do:

If you're using Firefox, simply go to the top of your window for the "Tools" menu, scroll down to "Add-ons", look for the "Crowdstar Gamebar", then click "Uninstall". Firefox will restart itself, the Gamebar will be gone, and you'll get to keep the shark!

For Internet Explorer users, go to "Tools", scroll down to "Manage Add-ons", look for the "Crowdstar Gamebar" listed under "Ask.com", double-click on the name "Crowdstar Gamebar", then click on "Remove".

FrontierVille Goal Guide: A list of every darn-tootin' goal in the game

Posted: 09 Aug 2010 01:00 PM PDT

In any normal circumstance, being told what to do doesn't isn't that much fun. In FrontierVille, the opposite's the case. This pioneering game does what other Facebook games don't -- directs your experience, which gives the game structure and ultimately holds your interest more than roaming around your neighbors' properties randomly chopping trees and harvesting barnyard animals.

So far, FrontierVille has 95 goals in all and continue to add them as the weeks pass. For those of you who want to see what lies ahead for your hard-working pioneer family, Games.com - The Blog! has posted this guide which lists every last goal in the game. We can't take credit for doing the work, though, that distinction belongs to FrontierVille player 'XRaptor,' who put together this insanely (in a good way) comprehensive list.

Treasure Isle Tiki Relic: New buildable artifact spits out daily rewards

Posted: 09 Aug 2010 12:00 PM PDT

Filed under:

treasure isle ancient relic

Treasure Isle has gone and released a new thing to build -- a Tiki Relic to be exact. When you log into the treasure hunting game, you'll get a pop up that asks if you want to place the Tiki Relic Frame or store it to place later. Be warned when you get ready to place this thing -- it's huge! It takes up nine square on your island, so if you're a packrat (you know who you are), you'll have to clear out some space to house this massive artifact.

Once the frame is in place, you'll have to collect items to build it. If you built out the Pirate Ship (or one of many buildables in other Facebook games), this will all be instantly familiar.

The materials required to finish the relic include the following:
  • 1 Glue
  • 1 Dye
  • 1 Fire
  • 1 Metal
  • 1 Oil
You can request materials from friends via a Facebook wall post or buy them using Island Cash. If you don't want to go through the whole building rigamarole, you can pay a total of 5 Island Cash (roughly $1.25) to get it done.

Once you complete your build, you will get a pop-up that lets you know you can collect rewards from your Relic every day, and this is when you learn that you're not done yet -- you still need to collect more of the same five items several times over to actually finish the relic.

Daily items collected from the relic so far include:
  • Gems
  • Painted Tiki Heads
  • Red, Orange, Blue Tiki Torches

Frontierville question of the day: What is an 'unready' chicken?

Posted: 09 Aug 2010 11:00 AM PDT

Filed under:

Today's Question of the Day is about Frontierville on Facebook, and we answer the question that's burning in so many virtual pioneers' brains -- "What the heck is an 'unready' chicken?!
frontierville unready chickens
First, some background. In the Checking for Breakfast mission on FrontierVille, you're directed to collect one egg, collect two bacon and "tend ten unready neighbor chickens." You can find the egg by harvesting chickens, collect bacon by harvesting pigs and tend to neighbors 'unready' chickens?

After doing some research (as in, I decided to read the hint at the bottom of the goal pop-up window) I discovered that an 'unready' chicken is one that has already been fed. To complete this goal, you need to find 10 chickens that are not hungry (hint: these chickens don't have an arrow above them).

Once see an unready chicken, mouse over it and your cursor will turn into a brush. Then click, and you'll see a progress bar that says 'grooming.' Grooming a chicken? Is that even legal? Once you've groomed 10 chickens, you'll complete the goal, which will earn you an extra 40 XP and 80 Food, and the option to share a Breakfast with your friends.

Pro Tip: Here's a quick tip on how to get this job done fast. Ask fellow frontierfolks to feed their chickens, and when they're done, scoot over to their property and click on their fed chickens. I did this with two of my friends, and it was easier than eating a bucket of fried chicken (so sue me, I like chicken).

How long did it take you to find unready chickens? Do you have any other related tips? Leave a note in the comments below.

Happy Pets: New 'My Little Pony' inspired horses are here to stay

Happy Pets Amethyst Appaloosa, Bronze Zebra, and Jet Black Pegasus
Thirteen new permanent horses trotted into the Happy Pets store last week, and I'm happy to say that none of them are Limited Editions, though they're all going to cost you some real world money. The cheapest ones go for 50 Facebook Credits ($5 USD), while the most expensive ones -- which are the winged horses and unicorns -- cost 62 FB Credits ($6.20 USD) due to their popularity.

Here are the Limited Edition ones from last week, if you want to see 'em, but they're all sold out now. Just a caveat, you'll still need to build a Horse Stable in order to keep horses in your game. Read our Happy Pets: Horse Stable Guide for more info.

Happy Pets: New vote and shoot camera feature has players saying 'Cheese!'

Posted: 09 Aug 2010 10:00 AM PDT

Filed under:

Happy Pets Photo Show-off iconWant to get that cool camera view of your Happy Pets at home that you see below? Click the "Photo Show-off" icon on the top right corner of your game window. It's the camera that has the red check mark on it. Then a window will appear. Click the blue "Take A Photo" bottom on the top left of the window to launch your camera.

You can use the arrow keys or the letters W, A, S, & D on your keyboard to move the camera around, and the little plus and minus buttons on the left-hand side to zoom in and out of your snapshot. Get your pets to come running to you for a photo by using the laser pointer. Or drag 'em over by using the arrow icon. Then click the big red button when you're ready!

After that, you can submit your photos for a public vote. You can also post the photo to your Facebook Wall, and if your friends click on it there, it will count as a vote. All the votes and snapshots will stay up for 24 hours.
Happy Pets Camera View
Voting for your favorite photos of the day (you can vote 10 times per day) will earn you coins and XP! Right now the whole feature is a popularity contest, so there's no prizes or anything. But it sure is fun showing off your pets.
Happy Pets visit user in Photo Show-off
And the best part about this is, you can visit the homes of the photos you love the most, and get to see the other people's pets in action! You don't have to be friended to them either. Just go to any photo and click "Visit User". This means you can play with new pets and collect money from other piggy banks too. This makes it much more than a photo sharing camera -- it's a method of in-game traveling!

Golden Nugget Vegas Casino: A Vegas classic launches Facebook game

Posted: 09 Aug 2010 08:00 AM PDT

golden nuggetYou can't play 'real' poker on the Internet (yet), but starting today you can play in a game backed by a real Las Vegas casino. The classic casino Golden Nugget, which has a rich history that dates back to 1946, brings the casino experience to you in the form of a new Facebook game, simply titled Golden Nugget Vegas Casino.

The game doesn't necessarily cater to people who want to play poker, blackjack and other casino games on Facebook -- this is more about building the virtual casino of your dreams. Start out with a modest casino and stock it with slot machines, card tables and more -- then collect money (or 'harvest') machines after a certain period of time passes. Each machine will be ready for collecting after a different amount of time, several minutes or longer depending on the device. The only time that you actually get to play casino games is when you visit neighbors, where you get 100 coins (per friend, per day) game playing comes in when you visit friends' casinos, where you get 100 coins to bet on whatever games they've placed in their casinos.

Golden Nugget has an in-game store with new games, decor that unlock as you level up and -- at some point in the near future -- they will also be adding microtransactions, where you can use real-life money to buy additional items for your casino.

So far, this simulation game doesn't seem to do much different than most of the other simulation games on Facebook, and is relying on its tie-in with Golden Nugget, and the fact that you're building a casino instead of a farm or cafe to attract the social gaming masses. If other casino-building games like My Casino and Casino City are any indication, I'd be surprised if this game will hit the jackpot. Then again, Lady Luck works in mysterious ways.
