| FarmVille Garage: Everything you need to know Posted: 06 Aug 2010 09:30 AM PDT Filed under: Farmville  FarmVille rolled out a new storage building this week -- the Garage, which can be used to store and upgrade tractors harvesters and seeders. If you are level 22 and up, you can buy a Garage Frame in the Market for 50,000 coins and get started on asking friends for the required building materials. Please note that the Garage will not store the bi-plane (boo) and you will only be able to have one garage on your farm at a time.  Building the Garage is very similar to building a Japanese Barn. To construct your Garage, you will need to collect 30 items total -- 10 Boards, 10 Bricks and 10 Nails. If you're like me and have been hoarding your extra materials from other construction projects, this should be a relatively painless exercise.Once you have placed your Garage Frame, click on "Look Inside" from the Garage's menu. That will open a pop-up window which displays everything you need to complete the construction. As usual, you can collect building materials for the garage in three different ways: 1. Sent as Free Gifts from neighbors Neighbors can send the materials needed to build your garage. One out of three components will be available at random on the Free Gifts page, so different people will have access to different materials. Once neighbors send materials, you will be able to accept them on your Facebook page.  2. Request Materials from Friends When viewing the interior of your unfinished Garage Frame, each material that you have not yet received 10 of has an 'Ask For More' button, that when clicked will take you to the Friend Selector page where you can select friends to send Gift Requests to for items you need.  3. Buy Materials You Need If you decide that you'd rather buy materials needed Garage, you can do so by clicking the "buy" button underneath the item in the Garage's menu. Alternatively, if you do not wish to buy the parts for the Garage individually, you can click the "Complete Now" button.  Once the garage is complete, it will look like this:  You completed garage will also hold up to 20 vehicles, and can be used to upgrade your farm vehicles. To upgrade a Vehicle, place it in your Garage and click "look inside". You will see the following menu that will display all of your stored vehicles.  Upgrading your Vehicles will increase the amount of plots they affect (2x2, 3x3 etc). The higher level your Vehicle is, the more plots it will affect. Currently, the highest you can level your Vehicles to level 4. Upgrading Vehicles requires Vehicle Parts. You can obtain Vehicle Parts two ways: 1. Ask For More When viewing the Garage's menu, you will see an 'Ask For Parts' button, that when clicked will take you to the Friend Selector page where you can select friends to send Gift Requests to for Vehicle Parts. 2. Completing with Farm Cash If at any time during your upgrade process you decide that you'd rather simply purchase the Vehicle Parts, you can do so by clicking the "Buy Parts" button that can be found in the Garage's menu. Once you have parts, you will see the following menu. From this menu you can select which Vehicle you would like to apply the Vehicle Part to.  Each Vehicle Level requires the following:
Once you complete a level on your Vehicle, you will receive a pop-up that will allow you to post a feed to your wall. The first 10 Neighbors who click on this feed will receive one Vehicle Part. All Vehicles that are stored in your Garage can still be used as normal. Right now, you may only have one garage on your farm and biplanes cannot be stored in them. | FarmVille Garage starts rolling out onto farms Posted: 06 Aug 2010 08:56 AM PDT Filed under: Farmville  FarmVille just posted an update and some farmers will start to see a new garage feature, which will allow you to store and upgrade your vehicles. This new feature will be rolling out slowly (though we're now sure how slowly) to everyone over the next few days (or weeks?), and it will be a buildable -- like the Horse Stable, ets, so you'll get a frame and then collect materials from friends to raise the roof on your new storage unit. | Playdom plans to shutter Chronicles of Spellborn in September Posted: 06 Aug 2010 07:00 AM PDT  Earlier this week, a server outage sparked a flurry of rumors that Playdom had pulled the plug on Chronicles of Spellborn MMO, which the social games publisher recently acquired from Acclaim Games. We contacted Playdom to see if it was RIP for Spellborn, and a company rep had both good and bad news to share. The good news -- the server outage was temporary. The bad news -- Chronicles of Spellborn will no longer be around starting September. "Yes we do plan to close the game at the end of the month," a rep tells us in an email. "The servers were down on Monday, but that was due to an unrelated technical issue; the game should be back up now until the end of the month." So for those of you who have been wondering why you haven't been getting any response from Playdom regarding CoS -- well, that pretty much sums it up. Maybe, like a few other deceased MMOs, someone will figure out how host a version of the game so your warrior/mage/rogue can keep grinding for eternity.

| SI Fantasy Football app debuts on Facebook Posted: 06 Aug 2010 05:00 AM PDT  In May, Sports Illustrated and Kabam (formerly known as Watercooler) announced that they were bringing one of the most popular real-life social games to Facebook -- fantasy football. Now, right before the 2010 football season kicks off, SI Fantasy Football arrives on Facebook. Much like the other fantasy football apps/sites out there, SI Fantasy Football lets you join or create a league, set up a draft, keep track of your players' scores in real-time and rap with other armchair quarterbacks in a chat area and on message boards. The big differentiator with this app is that it lives on Facebook, which means you can invite Facebook friends to join your league with a few clicks of the mouse (you also have the option to invite friends via email). Then there's the real strength of this app -- the ability to post trash talk directly to your Facebook wall.  Since this is a Sports Illustrated branded app, it naturally incorporates news and tips from SI's editorial staff, along with fantasy football analysis from Rotowire.com. You can also download the Fantasy Football Draft Kit from SI.com/FantasyFootball, which includes top 100 player profiles, key position rankings and mock drafts. When SI Fantasy Football was initially announced, there was brief mention of a FanZone feature that "will reward players for amassing large fan bases to cheer for their fantasy teams." It doesn't look like this feature made it into the launch version of the app, and there's no indication whether FanZone was sidelined or will be incorporated at a later date.  At the time of this post -- the 'invite friends' function seemed to have some trouble loading, so hopefully they'll get the kinks worked out before football fans rush to check out SI Fantasy Football. Stability will be the key for an fantasy football app like this to compete with Yahoo, ESPN and the other more robust fantasy football applications that have been the go-to for more than a decade. | Treasure Isle new Apes of the Ages maps put monkey wrenches to work Posted: 06 Aug 2010 04:35 AM PDT Filed under: Treasure Isle  Earlier this week, Zynga teased at new Apes of the Ages Treasure Isle maps. Today, the cheeky monkeys proved good on their word and released a slew of new simian locales for explorers to scavenge for hidden treasure.You won't want to miss these maps. Not only are they absolutely loaded with treasure AND monkeys, but they're quite fun too. The island designers/comedians at Zynga did a great job creating islands honoring some of history's most respectable apes. Check out what famous chimps are making cameos in Treasure Isle's new Apes of the Ages islands after the break.    Perhaps most exciting to Treasure Isle fans is the monkey wrench. All you wizards of the mysterious Monkey Palace have been wondering what to do with those rare monkey wrenches you've been digging up. With the discovery of the Apes of the Ages islands, those monkey wrenches can finally be put to use. Each island has at least one Monkey Contraption, an impasse causing device that requires at least one monkey wrench to open. To see how many are required place your cursor over the Monkey Contraption and a balloon will appear like the one seen at right. All kinds of treasures are buried beneath the island, and it's up to you to find them all. Despite two islands costing Island Cash, five gorgeous monkey islands are free to play.
