Mafia Wars Death Dealer Minigun: Limited edition gift is big on defense

Posted: 03 May 2010 11:00 PM PDT

limited edition weapons

Mafia Wars
has rolled out a series of limited edition gifts of late, and the most recent is the Death Dealer mini-gun, which you can send to 50 mafia members with (seriously) one click of a button. We highly recommend taking advantage of these limited edition specials -- especially considering the impressive stats of this big bruiser -- 48 Attack and 64 Defense.

That's the good news; now the bad news. You can only own five of these bad boys, so if after you accept five, every additional Death Dealer you get will be worth 1 energy point. As of this posting, this minigun will be available for 14 more hours so get moving and make sure your mafia's armed and dangerous.

No pound fees in PetVille for this week only

Posted: 03 May 2010 06:45 PM PDT

No pound fees in PetVille
As a thank you to all PetVille players this week, Zynga are removing pound fees for the whole week. This means that if it has been a day or two since you have logged in to visit your furry friend, you will not return to find them missing and a hefty fee to pay. Pound fees can really add up, especially if you're like me and you have to pay them every time you log in.

For this week only, the price will be zero coins to retrieve your pet from the pound. Your pet will still run away, it just won't cost you any money to get it back. This might be a great time to redecorate your pet's house while they're not there to get in the way.

Does your pet run away to the pound often in PetVille?

Treasure Isle: New Mayan Isles III maps are released

Posted: 03 May 2010 06:06 PM PDT

Zynga have been teasing us for the last week about the new Mayan Isles maps in Treasure Isle, and finally they have come through with their promise. Tonight, the Mayan Isles III maps were released, promising 7 new undiscovered islands to dig for treasure and discover collections. These maps are only available if you have completed all of the previous Mayan Isles maps, so you may not have them unlocked as of yet.

The new maps are:

Enchanted Land - Requires 10,000 coins
Eagle Claw
Stony Path - Requires 15 Island Cash
Isle of Time - Requires 8 Island Cash
Mystic Lake
Great Rune
Hidden Waters - Requires 5,000 coins

Many will be upset that two of these new maps are not unlockable without paying Island Cash, but it should be noted that the two largest islands are available for coins. The question is - were you able to finish the Mayan Isles II with all of those bugs you had to spray? Many Treasure Isle players are complaining that the required amount of coins is over 100,000 to complete the previous Mayan Isles maps because of all of the bugs to remove. For those who did complete them, the new maps will surely be a welcome addition to Treasure Isle.

Are you excited for the new Mayan Isles III maps in Treasure Isle? Let us know in the comments.

Treasure Isle Mystery Chest: Locksmith promises to email, then doesn't

Posted: 03 May 2010 12:00 PM PDT

Treasure Isle Mystery Chest email -- not!

Raise your hand if you've run into this problem. You've been digging like a fiend in Treasure Isle and run across a Mystery Chest. Unlike the other chests you unearth, this chest can only be opened by a locksmith, who promises he'll send an email when its done...

Not sure what your experience has been, but we've never received that email from said locksmith. Is this kind of like when a guy promises to call and then doesn't? Or when someone 'borrows' your cell phone to make a call and then runs away with it instead? We even blew the dust off our spam folder to see if the messages were lost in there, but nothing.

Geez, getting stood up a virtual locksmith is almost as bad as getting stood up by the real-life cable guy. Harumph.

Have you been able to open these mystery chests?

FarmVille Dog Herding and Other Tricks, Still Coming Soon

Posted: 03 May 2010 11:45 AM PDT

Each FarmVille Dog has a specific trick that is unique to their breed. While all Puppies that have grown into adult Dogs can learn these same tricks: Shake, Roll Over, and Play Dead, each breed of dog will also have an exclusive trick. For example coin purchasable Border Collies can herd as their final trick. After completing all the levels of tricks and the final 7 treats needed to master herding, you will be able to unlock the herding feature, but will still have to wait for this feature to be "live".
FarmVille Freak Robyn's Mastered Herd Trick Notice
Upon mastering the final trick you should receive a pop-up message stating that your pet is "too tired" after mastering all the tricks and will need more time to rest. In other words, Zynga is working on a way to smoothly implement the seemingly complicated feature into the game.

All breed specific tricks are currently "Coming Soon" even if you have mastered the trick with feeding your dog the required treats.

Final Tricks pertaining to Breed of Dog:
* Sheepdog - Harvest Sheep
* Collies - Herd
* Golden Retrievers - Fetch items for you
* Terriers - Harvest Rabbits

To learn more about Tricks and Treats for FarmVille Dogs read previous FarmVille Freak post here.

FarmVille takes a beating in April, losing 4.4 million players

Posted: 03 May 2010 10:00 AM PDT

farmville and other social games take a beating in april

Despite the ever-growing buzz around the farm-themed Facebook game FarmVille, the game hit a slump last month, dropping from 82 million players in March to 78 million at the end of April.

Inside Social Games, which reported the numbers, attributes this loss to the removal of third-party notifications on Facebook, which mean players stopped receiving a constant flow on what's happening in game. This reasoning seems pretty solid ( Zynga CEO Mark Pincus agrees, telling Business Week that it's only affecting their business in 'the short term'), especially considering that 14 games in the top 25 took a hit last month. That list of games includes Cafe World, Mafia Wars (both from FarmVille creator Zynga), Happy Aquarium from Crowdstar (which was already in decline the previous month), along with Pet Society and Restaurant City from Playfish.

We expect the drop may continue over the next month or so, especially with Facebook's plans to eliminate gift requests from the network, which means that all of the gift giving and receiving will be confined within the game.
farmville takes a beatingIt's also hard not to wonder how much of those declining numbers are also a sign of game fatigue, particularly as new games, i.e. Zynga's Treasure Isle, Playfish's Hotel City and Playdom's Social City rocketed into the top 20 games of the month. Serious social gamers have also been actively complaining about bug-riddled games for months, and scores more were teed off last week, after they were required to hand over their email to continue playing FarmVille, Mafia Wars, et al. In a Games.com poll of roughly 500 readers, 61% of the respondents said they would rather quit playing than give up their email. How much of a hold do these games have over its followers if something as simple as giving up an email makes them want to call it quits?

As Facebook continues to lay the smack down on social games that rely on its network to survive, it'll be interesting to see how many of the social gaming companies will be around in the next two years and what big wigs like Zynga and Playfish will do to make sure players keep coming back to spend their real-life cash on virtual goods.

Posted: 03 May 2010 09:30 AM PDT

FishVille free Minotaur
In a bizarre show of gratitude, FishVille is giving away a giant Minotaur in-game statue to each player of their Facebook fanpage. And if this hefty, toga-wearing, bull-headed monster of Greek myth is too scary or strange for your taste, you can sell him off to net yourself 5,000 Coins.

Click here for your free Minotaur.

And if anyone missed the previous post -- two hours earlier, FishVille was giving away 3 free Clarkii Clownfish. But don't bother going to the FishVille fanpage for that one, cause they took that post down. The offer should still be available here though.

There's a "Day at the Spa," complete with a bubble bath, and soothing waterfall, a "Perfect Dinner," containing a table and two chairs along with a lovely window background, and finally, a "Summertime Picnic" with all of the trimmings, including the fun striped blanket on which to sit.

Mafia Wars: Install toolbar and get 50 free reward points

Posted: 03 May 2010 06:15 AM PDT

Install Mafia Wars toolbar for 50 reward poitns
I'm a few days late in bringing this up and most of you will have seen this already, but I need to mention it because it is such a great opportunity. Mafia Wars is offering 50 FREE reward points for just installing the Mafia Wars toolbar. So, if you haven't done this already then do it now!

This is a great deal that you have no reason to miss. In case you were wondering, 50 reward points would cost you about $10 to buy in the Mafia Wars marketplace. Now if someone offered you 10 dollars to do something that will take you one minute to do and is virtually effortless would you refuse? I know I wouldn't, so don't miss this limited time opportunity to get a ton of reward points. And at the end of it all, if you download the toolbar and don't like it, remove it a few days after you get your reward points. That's what I like to call a no lose proposition.

Mafia Wars Rogue Agent announced

Posted: 03 May 2010 05:25 AM PDT

Mafia Wars Rogue AgentToday we have a new pop up in Mafia Wars. A rogue CIA agent has appeared and is being offered for you to send to your friends.

Now you have to make sure that your Mafia Wars friends all send this to you. Why? Because this agent has some awesome attack stats. As you can see in the image attack is 69 and defense is 30, which isn't too bad either.

You are only allowed to receive 5 rogue agents and if you get sent more they will be converted into energy instead. After you get a rogue agent and want to take a look at it you will find it under your Weapons List, even thought they are saying that it is awesome armor. Go figure?

There are still a few things that I am still not too sure about. The main thing being which of your Mafia members gets the rogue agent if you have more then 50 Mafia members in your family? I have more then 50 and am sure that many of you do as well, but when I clicked the send button, it just said that the rogue agent had been sent to my mafia. Who? I have no idea, so if you are in my Mafia and didn't get it I apologize! The other thing that is unclear is how much energy you will get if you get sent more then 5 agents.

You will also notice that the pop up has a time that shows you how long until the next gift unlocks. So I am assuming that after the timer hits zero, we will be given a new gift to send. Lets hope its as awesome as the rogue agent.

Now get back to the game and send me an agent!!
