Foretell the future with Tiki Resort fortune teller

Posted:

Tiki Resort has released another limited edition item, and this one is an interesting looking Fortune Teller. We're not really sure what this has to do with being on a Tiki Resort, but chances are that your tourists will appreciate the extra added entertainment.

The Fortune Teller only has 2,384 remaining in the shop as of this writing, and costs 29 Facebook Credits (or $2.90) to obtain. It takes quite a bit of time for these items to sell out. For example, the Wedding Chapel was released almost a month ago and only had 4,000 available. It still has 200 left, so we predict the fortune teller will at least be around for a couple weeks.

Will you be buying this Fortune Teller? Why or why not?

Become an equestrian in Horse Academy

Posted:

Horse Academy is a brand new game that just released last week that allows you to own your own horses and care for them. The main objective of the game involves buying caring for, and breeding horses, then racing them to level them up, before finally selling them to make a profit. Horse Academy also incorporates the standard "dollhousing" aspect of creating your own farm. You can buy stables to increase the number of horses you can have, decorate with foliage, buy jockey houses and other buildings, and pave roads.

There are a couple features in this game that make it stand out from the others, and they're mostly involving social features. The first is that the racing system actually matches you up with other players who are online, and actually allows you to chat with them before the race starts. This kind of real-time interaction is seldom seen in Facebook games. In addition, when you sell a horse you actually enter them in a multiplayer marketplace where players can sell horses to each other. This is a neat feature that may help set Horse Academy apart from other horse games such as Horse Gaga.

Delicious candy theme coming soon to PetVille

Posted:

PetVille have just given us a sneak peek at their next theme - Johan's Candy Shoppe. Johan Honeycrumb, who is a confectioner, will be providing tasty treats in PetVille. We're not exactly sure when this will roll out to the world, but our sweet tooth is already starting to ache in anticipation.

Hopefully this theme will not just be food items to put on the shelf. The preview image has a slightly transparent curtain through which a giant lollipop appears to be seen. And is that a cupcake? We'll have to wait to find out. This new theme should be arriving this week and will be a nice follow up to the Paris items from last week.

Are you excited for the Candy Shoppe theme in PetVille? What kind of items do you hope they include?

Restaurant City: Shrink your customers with "Drink Me" Potion recipe

Posted:

Restaurant City Drink Me potion in Menu
We thought we left the Alice in Wonderland stuff back in February, after the splurge of set themes that came out around the release of Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland movie, but Restaurant City felt like throwing a Wonderland tea party and everyone was invited to join them down the rabbit hole.
Free Sugar and Restaurant City Drink Me Potion
Now you can make your virtual customers a part of the action too, by shrinking them with a level 10 recipe of the "Drink Me" Potion. The recipe calls for 4 ingredients: Sugar, Water, Pineapple, and Chili. To help you along, the game's official Facebook fanpage is giving you free Sugar right here, but it'll only be around for the next 20-so hours.

Sports Illustrated bringing fantasy football to Facebook

Posted:

Fantasy sports might be one of the original social games, with obsessive fans organizing rotiseree leagues in person or via snail mail long before the Internet or Facebook were even things. That was then, though, and now Sport illustrated and WaterCooler Inc. have announced a deal to bring online fantasy football competitions to Facebook.

The press release describes a "branded SPORTS ILLUSTRATED environment" (no, we don't know why it's all capitalized either) that will include many of the trappings of traditional fantasy football sites, such as stats, news and analysis. Only now it's all on Facebook, so it should be easier than ever to find friends to play with, get updates on what's happening in your league, and, most importantly, post trash talk on your Wall.

Intriguingly, the press release also teases a FanZone feature that "will reward players for amassing large fan bases to cheer for their fantasy teams," suggesting that some of the trappings of traditional Facebook games may be infesting this fantasy sports experiment.

No word yet on when this new fantasy football experience will actually be available, but we're gonna guess somewhere around football season.

PetVille: Email for exclusive yellow baby bird

Posted:

PetVille baby yellow bird for buying Pet Cash
Many players are reporting on the PetVille official forums that they have received an email that grants them an exclusive yellow baby bird if they purchase Pet Cash or coins. PetVille Community Manager MaiLau has confirmed that this is a legitimate email, but it has not yet gone out to everyone as they are still working out some kinks in the process. Some players have been complaining that they received the email and clicked on the link but did not receive their baby bird.

If you receive this email, make sure that you buy your Pet Cash or coins through the link in the email, otherwise you will not get the exclusive baby bird. If you're unlucky like us and haven't received the email yet, you'll have to hold tight and hope that it comes around. This bird has adorable big green eyes and a huge bow on its head and would look cute in your pet's home.

Mother's Day a boon for social game makers

Posted:

We've all heard the rumors that Mother's Day was just a fake holiday created by greeting card companies to increase their profits every May. But that's obviously false. The holiday was actually created to help the profits of social game companies.

That conclusion doesn't seem so far fetched in light of a new report (PDF link) that estimates social gaming revenues increased 400% in the run up to Mother's Day. The report, commissioned by gaming payment company TrialPay, found that social gaming companies generated a million dollars a day through "gifts for mom" promotions in the week leading up to Mother's Day. What's more, a good 40% of those gift purchasers were completing in-game offers for the first time, a good sign for publisher's looking to expand their paying customer bases.

Domain registrations point to new Zynga social network

Posted:

On Friday, we filed a report on the swirling rumors that developer Zynga was planning to leave Facebook and start its own social network, Zynga Live. Today, we've unearthed evidence of recent domain registrations that lend some support to those rumors.

Registrations for ZyngaLive.com, ZyngaLive.net, ZyngaLive.org, ZyngaLive.info and ZyngaLive.us have popped up on DNS databases. All five domains were first registered on Feb. 5 by MarkMonitor Inc., the same organization that initially set up the main zynga.com domain back in 2007. As if that weren't enough evidence that Zynga is behind these web sites, the ZyngaLive.us registration actually lists administrative, billing and technical contacts at San Francisco's Zynga Game Network Inc.

Of course, these registrations don't absolutely confirm Zynga has plans to launch their own social network at these addresses, or that the company will be moving away from Facebook. Perhaps Zynga Live is a completely different project. Perhaps the company is just hedging its bets by taking some possible Zynga-related domains for itself. Perhaps this is all a misunderstanding and some guy named Zyng wants to tell the internet he's Alive.

Still, we're more inclined to believe the simplest explanation that points to some interesting moves from Zynga coming in the near future.

By the by, if you want to register ZyngaLive.biz, it's still available.

Social City limited edition buildings: Capital Monument, Italian Vineyard, Underhill Home

Posted:

Social city limited edition buildings

Social City has rolled out three new limited edition buildings -- the Capital Monument (59 CB), Italian Vineyard 1 (45 CB) and Underhill Home 2 (20 CB). Each of these buildings cost City Bucks, which can be earned while playing the game but generally requires purchase using real-life cash.

We probably won't shell out for these, but if we had to pick one it'd have to be the Capital Monument -- it's epic! Then again, that Underhill home is a little reminiscent of Bilbo Baggins' house in The Hobbit. Decisions, decisions...

Which limited edition building did you buy?

Happy Aquarium: Free female frog for 28 days of logging in

Posted:

Happy Aquarium Free Female Frog
Two weeks ago, Happy Aquarium began rewarding players with a free male frog for 14 consecutive days of logging into the game. Now they've upped the ante by asking for 28 days of consecutive log-ins in exchange for a female frog! (Click here to launch the game and get started today.) That's asking for a lot... when to miss even one day, means losing the deal. Time works differently in Crowdstar games. Here in NYC, I've noticed that the daily cycle of the game starts and ends at 2:00 p.m. So if I managed to log-in before 2:00 p.m. each day, then I'm good.

There's also plenty of folks who still haven't gotten their free male frogs. For those that need to report bugs with this frog feature, join the Happy Aquarium Community on Facebook and head over to this forum thread to make your issues known.

How to detect a scam or fake FarmVille post on Facebook

Posted:

All FarmVille players should all be aware of scam or fake reward posts/groups and how to detect them in their Facebook homefeed. These scams seem to be increasing at an alarming rate and have started to look more authentic but are not! 'Click here to get your blue turtle', '200 free FV$, just click here' or most recently, 'Join to receive rare collectables' are not real offers. These fake or scam groups cannot and will not provide you with any rewards or unreleased items. Only through Zynga can you purchase FV$, puppies, adopt animals or receive special rewards. To protect yourself, your Facebook account and your friends FarmVille player Brian Weaver provided the following tips:

FarmVille Freak Brian's

Just to reiterate, the word FarmVille and the ear of corn must both visible in a posts footer for it to be authentic.

Another great way to check for a fake or scam post is by clicking the 'hide' option on homefeed. Simply, hover your mouse over the upper right hand side of a post and click hide. If it says anything other then "Hide FarmVille", it is a fake!
