| Quote of the Moment: Art vs. Commerce Posted: 10 Apr 2010 10:30 AM PDT -Journalist, designer and writer Gary Whitta analyzes the social games market somewhat cynically "I will retire before I have to make a game based on analytics or market share. I will go open a bookstore. Sales are not the only thing that matter. If I got data that said one thing and I believed in my heart of hearts in another, I would screw the data and ignore it." -Legendary game designer Warren Spector's artistic soul rebels against market constraints [Both quotes as reported by the BBC]

| New enchanted YoVille house now available for YoCash Posted: 10 Apr 2010 03:17 AM PDT A new house was added to YoVille. This hideaway has a waterfall in front of its small entrance and a very wide front yard. The interior of the house is different as it has wooden ladders and small stone openings instead of doors. The new masterpiece will cost you 33 YoCash. This update will disappoint many YoVille players who were anticipating a house in coins especially that only two houses come out with every new theme. | FarmVille boycott: Fan blog urges farmers to snub ad-sponsored peanut crops Posted: 10 Apr 2010 02:00 AM PDT "Spread the word if you are a Farmville player and do NOT buy these "peanuts". This is the first brand advertising that Zynga's Farmville has chosen to align itself with. There are 82 million players worldwide. Farmville makes $$$$ off the players buying seeds and whatever else this game has you do. You stop playing and spread the word, it will send the message to Farmville." So far, ad integration in Facebook games has been minimal, though we spotted a few sponsored items in Zoo World for the new Kirstie Alley TV show Big Life, and Bejeweled Blitz had a big ad/giveaway campaign with Mazda a few weeks ago as well. Holly Tree does make a compelling point -- if this peanuts promotion performs well for Zynga, we can probably expect to see a lot more of this type of advertising in our favorite Facebook games in the not-so-distant future.

| How to find FarmVille's Lexilicious on Facebook Posted: 10 Apr 2010 01:00 AM PDT Probably due to an overwhelming response of friend requests, when trying to add her a message occurs that reads: "Sorry this user already has too many friends." I'm not sure what else anyone would expect, asking over 82 million FarmVille players to add you on Facebook is bound to cause some problems. Since there are numerous "Lexi Smith's" on Facebook, you can find FarmVille's Lexilicious Facebook here: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?v=wall&id=100000495670318 This article originally appeared on FarmVille Freak.

| Mafia Wars Weapon Depo: Build a 'little friend' of your own Posted: 10 Apr 2010 12:00 AM PDT A weapon is a mobster's best friend; and with the new Mafia Wars Weapons Depot, you can build a few friends of your very own. The Weapons Depot is the newest Mafia Wars Property, and when we signed onto the game Friday morning, we discovered one of these functional buildings alongside the other Mafia Wars New York Properties. A Little Help From The Family Without any additional effort, The Mafia Wars Weapons Depot was up, running and ready to build a Random Common Weapon, (we built a Cricket Bat, complete with bloody trim). Just like the Chop Shop, the Weapons Depot is upgradeable; and with a little help from your family, you can increase your Depot productivity to generate more parts and build stronger weapons. Some of those weapons include: First Blood, a Crossbow with 49 Attack and 13 Defense; the Robber's Utility belt with 33 Attack, 41 Defense and a 6 point Stamina upgrade; or a Plasma Rifle with 40 Attack, 47 Defense and a 5 point Defense Upgrade. Better and Stronger Your Weapons Depot starts out at Level 1; but that's just the beginning. You can construct your Depot, step by step, to enhance your weapons production. The savvy criminal will find it easy to acquire 4 each of 5 items: Forges, Arc Welders, Buzzsaws, Gun Powder and Gun Drills, to bring their depot to Level 2. The required number of parts increases with each successive level; but the rewards are great: more weapons and more power with enhanced Attack and Defense capabilities to take down your toughest rivals. The Weapons Depot Upgrade The Weapons Depot also produces weapons parts on its own. The higher the level, the more parts it produces.Your primary efforts will go into finding construction materials for ongoing Depot Upgrades. There are three ways to find materials: - Ask Your Family Once every 24 hours and after each Level upgrade, you can send out a plea to your family for help. With one click, they can supply one of the construction items you need for your next Weapons Depot upgrade. Or they can opt to send you tools and construction materials from either the gift menu or their personal inventories. - Job Loot The sharp Mafia Don... or Donna (Mafia Wars is, indeed, an equal opportunity criminal enterprise) who keeps a watchful eye, may find bonus loot from time to time. That loot could be anything, including weapon parts or the construction materials you need. - Fight Loot A hardworking foot soldier deserves something special when they put life and limb on the line. While attacking a rival Mafia, they may find surprise loot, including weapon parts or construction materials. If the Weapons Depot follows the Chop Shop trend, in the future you may also expect to find weapons parts and Depot construction materials in Hidden Loot Stashes, Robbery Loot and Mystery Bags; but we'll just have to wait and see, won't we? In the meantime, your Weapons Depot is up and running and ready to create your first -- using 'Scarface' parlance -- little friend.
