Pissing Contest on Facebook: Social gaming meets first-person peeing

Posted: 27 Apr 2010 12:30 PM PDT

Pissing contest on Facebook

If you're offended by bathroom humor, then you won't want to play new Facebook game Pissing Contest from W Technologies. This "First Person Pisser" is designed to let players "vent their frustrations over the financial crises and take aim -- literally -- at investment bankers on Wall Street."

That's about as highbrow as Pissing Contest gets, because the actual game involves filling up the game's hero by drinking beer and then peeing on friends who are on fire, until your stream runs dry. That's followed by drinking another beer to fill up again. Be careful to aim at friends only -- if you save burning investment bankers, the guys surrounded by blue fire, they will greedily drain your beer supply.

Unlike other social games which generally involve lots of clicking, this requires a little more dexterity, using a combo of arrow keys, space bar and shift button to get the deed done. It's certainly more challenging than most of the popular Facebook games out there, and will be welcome change to someone looking for something a little different (and a little irreverent).
pising contest beer bucks

There's a few light social elements built into Pissing Contest, like the ability to give virtual beer to friends, see how your score stacks up against your PC friends, and -- of course -- there's the option to use real-life cash to buy Beer Bucks, which can then be used to buy super-powered beers that let your hero pee further, longer and stronger.

Now if you will excuse us, we suddenly have the urge to visit the restroom.

Restaurant City: 50% Music Player Sale of The Fiesta Brothers

Posted: 27 Apr 2010 11:30 AM PDT

Restaurant City Music Player
Restaurant City's Music Player is a very underused feature in the game with only five musical pieces to choose from: Default, Pineapple Overture, My Irish Heart, Delicate Spring, and The Fiesta Brothers.

With the exception of No Music and Default, all songs cost 4000 Coins each. But as part of Restaurant City's Mexican theme this week, the Fiesta Brothers is getting a 50% discount. So grab it while it's hot!

The Music Player can be found on the bottom right-hand side of your game, inside the blue folder icon. Hover your mouse over the blue folder icon, and move it to the icon of a music CD, then click on it to access the Player.

PetVille Enchanted Crates: Are these new mystery items too darn expensive?

Posted: 27 Apr 2010 11:00 AM PDT

petville enchanted crates
PetVille has rolled out a new mystery crate called the Enchanted Crate, which has one of eight special enchanted prizes inside each. Based on the image in the in-game store, it looks like this new mystery box includes a some kind of enchanted tree surrounded by purple glowing lights, a floating castle and a levitating book.
petville enchanged crate too expensive

The Enchanted Crates cost 30 PetVille cash each (roughly $2.50), but some players are saying these crates are a little too expensive to buy. We heard similar feedback from Games.com blog readers about PetVille's Pet Wing Mystery Crates and the Pet Tail Mystery Crates released earlier this year, and this new mystery crate costs more than the both of those.

What do you think: Are the new PetVille mystery boxes too expensive? Will you buy them anyway?

Quote of the Moment: Secret of Bejeweled Blitz's success

Posted: 27 Apr 2010 11:00 AM PDT

bejeweled blitz secret of success"There are really two key factors to Bejeweled Blitz's success and virality. One is that when we did it, we made it one minute... The second thing we're doing is resetting the leader board every week...

So my analogy here is of pool. My dad is really good at pool and I am mediocre at pool. In the way most leader boards in games work is like a lifetime leader board, which is like saying my father's best game at pool is versus my best game at pool. And that means that he's always going to win that because he's really good at pool. And that's not fun, right?

However in real life, when we play pool, it's reset every time we play. If I win, we then have the social context to know that, "I'm a mediocre player and I just beat your ass, Dad, haha!" He grumbles and tries to kick my ass the next time we play, and it's fun.

So by resetting the leader board every week, it makes it more about the temporal experience. You know Dave [pointing at PopCap CEO David Roberts] here might be better than me, but if I beat him in a certain week because he hasn't played much, I can still feel good because "Oh, I beat you"--even though normally he's beating me."

PopCap co-founder Dave Vechey explains Bejewled Blitz's mass appeal in CNET's in-depth Q&A.

Cafe World: How to Spice Your Neighbor's Dishes

Posted: 27 Apr 2010 10:45 AM PDT

Remember how we told you that soon, Cafe World spices would have a larger importance in the game? Apparently Zynga didn't want to make us wait any longer to find out what that announcement meant, as they have released a new feature in the game, allowing you to spice your neighbors' dishes when you visit their cafes.
Adding Spice to Dishes in Cafe World
Adding a spice is simple. Just click on a stove with a green arrow and select "Yes," that you would like to add some spice.
Spice Stove?
If you choose to add some spice to their dishes, you'll receive the same Cafe Points and coins as if you had gone to their cafe and given one of their recipes a quick taste test (the traditional event that popped up when you visited a friend).
Earn Points for Spicing Dishes in Cafe World

Don't worry, you're not using any of your own spices in helping out a friend, so feel free to help as many friends as you like (you can only spice one dish in a cafe at a time). Again, you'll receive Cafe Points and Coins for doing so, and your friends will receive extra servings of the dish in question. Additionally, if you happen to come across some spoiled dishes, you can save them in the same way - sprinkle some spice on top and voila - food that's ready to serve once again.

While spicing your friends' dishes, you might come cross bonus items like more spices or spice rack ingredients. These spices and ingredients are the "real" spices, that do count towards your own total and you can share your new discovery of them on your wall as a news item that friends can click to earn more spices or the free spice rack ingredient, if they need it.
Bonus for Spicing Neighbors in Cafe World
Head over to the game's page to start adding some spice to your Cafe World neighbors' lives.

Happy Aquarium: Guide to the new "Rescue an Animal!" feature

Posted: 27 Apr 2010 10:30 AM PDT

Rescue an Animal! in Happy Aquarium
People who have been checking out the Happy Aquarium demo tank would've noticed a small floating barrel on the upper left corner of the tank. It's clear that there's an animal trapped inside it, and it keeps blowing bubbles that spell out the word: "HELP". That was the teaser to the new "Rescue an Animal!" feature.

Players will encounter it randomly, but once triggered, it operates in the same way as the Monster Expeditions. Because you'll need friends to help you procure a certain number of items to free the trapped creature.

If you choose to rescue the animal, the barrel will appear in your tank. Click on the barrel, and you'll get a window showing you the items you'll need. Each barrel requires the following: 3 Helps, 3 Plyers [sic], 3 Crowbars, 3 Screwdrivers, 3 Hammers, and 4 Gloves. And if you're friend-less and rich enough, each item of help can be bought for 15 Pearls.
Happy Aquarium Animal Rescue tools
Clicking on "Get Help" will trigger a post to your Facebook Wall. Your friends can click on your post to send you the supplies you need, but they must be Level 3 and above. Helping you out will also earn them a little XP.

When all the items are collected and the animal is ready to be released, you'll see the words "RESCUE NOW!" on the barrel. Click on that, and the creature is yours! Now if only we knew what this mysterious creature is...

Rumor: Mafia Wars Arena, Armor Depot coming soon, Las Vegas launch date

Posted: 27 Apr 2010 10:00 AM PDT

mafia wars coming soon

A slew of new features are purportedly en route to Mafia Wars, some which we're expecting, like the Fight Club, and others we weren't, like an Armor Depot and a revamped fighting system called the 'Arena.' Mafia Wars Maniac says that the next batch of features will include the following:

1. A new Lotto collection is on its way.

2. Las Vegas will arrive this summer (mid-June 2010).

3. The Safe House will be replaced with customized characters that can be voted on for the Prestige award/achievement

4. New Top Mafia Positions and related achievements for 25, 50 and 200 promotions in the same category. The 200 will give you 10% no energy or 50% energy or 200% money chance per job.

5. Mystery Bags will soon be limited to 30 clicks.

6. Fight club launch is coming soon (for real this time)

7. The new fighting system will be called 'Arena,' and it will work similar to robbing.

8. An Armor Depot will be coming soon.

We've reached out to Zynga to see if these rumors are true, or if someone's got a great imagination. Most of these sound fairly plausible, but we'll let you know for sure when we hear back.

What do you think -- are these Mafia Wars coming soon rumor too good to be true?

Happy Aquarium offers 10 Free Pearls for "Super Users" of new toolbar

Posted: 27 Apr 2010 09:05 AM PDT

Load up Happy Aquarium and you might get a prompt (see above image) to download a new "personal gamebar" in exchange for 10 Free Pearls. You have the option to decline the offer, but I clicked on "Get My Pearls" and after waiting for my game to reload, an icon with the same message is now on the right-hand side of my screen. Also, the free Pearls were now in my account.
Want to get 10 free pearls? Happy Aquarium icon
The strange thing though, is that nothing from the game seems to have changed. But hey, free Pearls! Maybe I should use them to buy something before they disappear? Happy Aquarium's a good game, but we all gotta admit, it's still a bit buggy.

Notes: This offer doesn't seem available to new users. Also, Crowdstar has reported that players who use Internet Explorer might see the offer, but not be able to install the toolbar. The tech folks are working out the kinks right now.

Rumor: Mafia Wars Fight Club will be launching soon (for real this time)

Posted: 27 Apr 2010 09:00 AM PDT

mafia wars fight club coming soon -- for real this time

First rule of Fight Club is: You do not talk about Fight Club. And that seriously seems to be the case with the not-yet-launched Fight Club feature in Mafia Wars that's we've seen loitering in the Marketplace since early April. That might change soon, though, if these rumors are true.

mafia wars fight club

To put this into context for those who aren't in the know -- since early April, something called 'Fight Club' appeared in the Marketplace, marked as coming soon. Further explanation of this feature simply says, "Earn Victory Tokens from winning Fights to unlock exclusive loot for active fighters!'

Once you earn tokens, you'll be able to spend them on four mega-powerful items (provided you have a certain number of Top Mafia, most likely another new feature that will be arriving sooner than later).

Those items include the following:

mafia wars fight club items

Glance 32 SR (33A, 72 D)
Hazard Gear (35A, 71 D)
Silenced Sniper Rifle (70A, 28D)
Fight Buff Pack

How do you think the new Fight Club will work?

Social City: Now you can take a Snapshot of your city

Posted: 27 Apr 2010 08:30 AM PDT

Take Snapshot in Social City
Social City just introduced a Snapshot Feature that allows you to take pics of your city and automatically import them into your Facebook photo album. Normally, people use "PrintScrn" or screencapping software, but this feature cuts out the middleman.

To take a snapshot, you click on the camera icon on the lower left-hand side of the game. Most of the shot is going to be taken up by the frame, which displays the name, population, and level of your city. You'll also need to give the game permission to send the pics to your Facebook profile, which will be done via a window prompt.

Get lucky with the new Music Pets daily bonus!

Posted: 27 Apr 2010 07:00 AM PDT

If you haven't tried Music Pets, you definitely should give it a shot. This incredibly cute pet game not only gives you your own adorable pet to care for, but it will also help you discover new music! And it's the best time to stop in, because Music Pets has just launched a brand new daily lottery.

This lottery works like most other games, in that every day you log in you have a random chance to earn a specific amount of coins. For every consecutive day you log in, the maximum amount you can earn will go up. This doesn't necessarily mean you will earn more though, keep in mind it is still a random lottery. However, the chance to earn more is always a good thing. The new Music Pets lotto gives you up to a +10,000 coin bonus for up to 5 days of consecutive logging in. That's a pretty huge reward if you manage to score big on the lottery!

What do you think of daily lotteries? Do they keep you coming back to play, or do you ignore them?

Happy Pets: NEW! Color Dyes for pets

Posted: 27 Apr 2010 06:30 AM PDT

Happy Pets Color DyesHappy Pets is now offering players the option to change their pet's color with Color Dyes, with the caveat that results may vary. The dye is permanent, which means it's irreversible. But you can dye over the dye with a different color. The dyed color will also become a trait the pet can pass on.

Colors available are: Black, Pink, Purple, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, and Red. The dyes go for 18 Facebook Credits each, are for one-time use, and earn you 54 XP per use.

The dyes only replace the colors of the head, legs, and body, so markings -- such as stripes and patches -- will remain unaffected. Eye color, ear color, and nose color will also remain unchanged.

To change your pet's color, click on your pet, go to the "Dress up" tab, then click "Dyes". Or you can buy the dyes by going to the Store, the Accessories section, Clothes, then "Dyes". Right now, the dyes are available in the "NEW!" part of the Store. Check out the cat results of the Color Dyes below.

Happy Pets Limited Edition Famous Dogs: Clifford, Brian, Brain, and Scooby-Doo!

Posted: 27 Apr 2010 05:15 AM PDT

Happy Pets Famous Dogs
Last night, Happy Pets revealed their Famous Pets: Dog Collection 1, spearheaded by The Big Red Dog, which most people would recognize as Clifford from Norman Bridwell's famous children's book series.

For the dog aficionados out there, Clifford is essentially a breed of giant Vizsla, so this will be the first appearance of that breed in Happy Pets. On top of that, The Big Red Dog will grow to be twice the size of your other dogs! There's still no word if the 'giant' trait can be passed on when you breed 'em, but the game is working on that.

The 3 other dogs in this collection are named: Griffin, Gadget, and Mystery Dog.

Mystery Dog is obviously Scooby-Doo. And Gadget is the dog sleuth "Brain", from Inspector Gadget.

Griffin was somewhat hard to figure out, but the name gave it away -- it's Brian Griffin from Family Guy! (Most people feel that Brian's looks are actually modeled after Snoopy's.)

Just note, these famous dogs are in limited supply, are all male, go for 78 Facebook Credits each, and will only be around until April 30th!

Expand your Social City with two new homes

Posted: 27 Apr 2010 05:00 AM PDT

You may not get a tax credit for these houses, but they will sure improve the value and uniqueness of your Social City! Playdom has just rolled out two new limited time buildings to make your city more beautiful and stand out from the crowd. Unfortunately, you'll have to dish out some City Bucks if you want these buildings.

The Tudor Estate costs 70 City Bucks and has 5,836 left as of this writing. It is a large, old style mansion with a lot of charm and elegance. The second building is the Underhill Home 1, which might look awfully similar to a Hobbit Hole from Lord of the Rings! The Underhill Home is smaller, and costs 20 City Bucks. There are 11,128 of these available right now - but since they are less expensive and probably part of a set, they will go quickly.

As always, these are a limited quantity, so if you want a mortgage on a piece of this prime real estate - you better get your offer in!
