My Tribe Cheats & Tips: Complete trophy list

Posted: 22 Apr 2010 11:00 PM PDT

My Tribe has just released trophies, which are achievements that you can earn by partaking in particular activities in the game. Are you working on My Tribe trophies? What is the hardest one you have achieved?

Fish Isle sales promotion and new tropical items

Posted: 22 Apr 2010 10:24 PM PDT

Fish Isle is an interesting take on the whole farming and island theme. It's not a farm game because you aren't actually tending crops. It's not an aquarium game like FishVille where you see your beautiful fish swimming around. It's not a tycoon island game like Tiki Resort. It's actually a "fish farming" game, in which you place fish eggs in nets off the shore of your own island and raise and sell the fish when they're harvestable. When you first log in, you'll find the aesthetics very familiar, since most of the interface, layout, and menus are borrowed heavily from FarmVille.

Fish Isle has released a whole set of new tropical and tiki items. Here is the full list of new items:

Female Tiki Totem - 4 Fish Cash
Tiki Bar Statue - 6 Fish Cash
Hanging Lanterns - 4000 coins
Island Juice Bar - 10000 coins
Mini Waterfall - 15000 coins
Tiki Bar - 15000 coins
Round Sand Castle - 7000 coins
Large Ocean Hut - 9 Fish Cash
Simple Deck (straight) - 2000 coins
Simple Deck (bend) - 2000 coins
Straw Umbrella - 2000 coins
Stone Fire Pit - 4 Fish Cash
Sand Castle - 4000 coins

In addition to releasing these new items, Fish Isle is currently running a promotion on Fish Cash. Right now you can get 25 Cash for just $1.00. Typically, 25 Fish Cash costs $5.00, so this is a great deal if you were planning on buying Fish Cash anytime soon. This deal is only available once per player, and only for a limited time. The promotion ends on Thursday, April 29th.

Happy Island releases new buildings

Posted: 22 Apr 2010 10:00 PM PDT

Happy Island has just released a new set of five new buildings! These buildings do not seem to follow any particular theme as they are quite varied in use and style. It is unclear if these are available permanently or for a limited time. Here is the set of new items that were released!

Noodle Stand - Level 13, 6400 coins, Collects: 650
Space Pirates Set - 65 Facebook Credits, Collects: 1600
Sustainable Shelter - 55 Facebook Credits, Collects: 2000
French Bistro - Level 21, 85,000 coins, Collects: 2200
Island Grill - Level 23, 97,000 coins, Collects 2250

As you can see, some of the items are priced very high. The Island Grill is quite neat looking, but I'm not sure I'll ever have quite that much in coins! The French Bistro is a very elegant building, and the Sustainable Shelter fits in nicely with the Earth Day theme.

Which of these new buildings will YOU buy?

Sorority Life debuts Earth Day Dress as a free gift

Posted: 22 Apr 2010 08:00 PM PDT

Sorority Life has an Earth Day present for all of its sisters, and it comes in the form of a new floral print dress. This dress is short, summery and chic, and is now available on the gift page to send to friends. We're assuming the Earth Day reference comes in the form of the bright colored flowers all over it, but we think it's a great time to start putting on the cute strappy heels and enjoy the lovely weather.

This floral smock is not available to purchase, but we suspect it will be a popular gift to send while it still is available. Like most Earth Day items, don't expect this one to last long! If you miss it, there's always a chance it will show up in the Vintage Boutique in the future, but you don't want to take your chances.

Get your free FishVille tree for Earth Day

Posted: 22 Apr 2010 02:00 PM PDT

Did you think that FishVille was too preoccupied with its Fanta-Sea collection to celebrate Earth Day? Well, you thought wrong. Not to be outdone by all of the other games, FishVille has just given all of their fans a free Earth Day tree. It's just a simple tree, but we think it looks pretty snappy against the new Fanta-Sea environments. Maybe this was a last minute addition to the game?

To claim your free FishVille underwater tree decoration, simply click on this link. You will end up loading a page congratulating you for your new tree. It will then show up in your gift box, and is called a "Springtime Tree". The tree will sell for 2500 coins, so even if you don't have room for it you should still claim it to make a little profit!

Did you claim your free Earth Day tree? Log in to FishVille now!

New program will let you convert reward points into in-game items

Posted: 22 Apr 2010 11:00 AM PDT

Yesterday's launch of the f8 Facebook Developers conference was full of a lot of talk about social graphs and APIs and HTML code and other stuff that's not really of much interest to the average social gamer. But there was one announcement from the first day of the conference that caught our eye -- a new program called App2User that could bring new options for buying in-game items in many popular Facebook games.

Inside Facebook explains that the program will allow companies to offer Facebook credits in exchange for their proprietary reward points -- the kind you get from using certain credit cards, store loyalty cards, frequent flier programs, and the like. Facebook Credits can already be used to purchase items in games like Happy Island, Tiki Resort, Hotel City, as well as Zynga's ultra-popular games. Facebook is currently soliciting App2User applications from interested companies that offer reward points, and is said to be "open to working with a variety of different partners."

Trading one pseudo-currency for another may seem a bit silly to some people -- especially when those rewards points can often be traded for gift cards or cold hard cash -- but for Facebook gamers who spend a lot of money on in-game items, this could be a great way to help reduce the "virtual items" line in your personal budget.

MySpace not interested in buying social games companies

Posted: 22 Apr 2010 08:45 AM PDT

While parent company News Corp. may be busy acquiring social gaming company Irata Labs, MySpace Co-president Jason Hirschhorn says his social network isn't interested in following their lead.

In a recent interview with Business Insider, Hirschhorn is paraphrased as saying the company won't be purchasing any social games studios for themselves. "We're a platform," he said by way of concise explanation. In the interview, Hirschhorn also said MySpace's is working on a unified payment/currency platform which could simplify monetization for app developers.

Despite a registered user base of over 120 million users, MySpace has been struggling to turn around its reputation as an also-ran in light of Facebook's tremendous growth. But Hirschhorn seemed optimistic that the company can still around. "It hasn't happened on the Internet," he said, "[but] there's always a first."

Happy Pets: Earth Day pets up for adoption

Posted: 22 Apr 2010 08:41 AM PDT

happy pets earth day parrot happy pets earth day dalmation happy pets earth day cat
Games all over Facebook have been releasing Earth Day goodies, and Happy Pets is no exception. Three adorable (and bizarre) pets have been added to the store for players to adopt.

The Earth Day pets are blue and green. While those are appropriate colors for a parrot, the blue cat with green spots and the dalmatian look completely wild.

To find these remarkable animals, simply jump into Happy Pets and click the Earth Day button at the top left of the screen (pictured right). The store will open and take you straight to the Earth Day pets. All three animals cost 68 Facebook Credits (sorry folks, no coins this time).

Keep in mind that there isn't an infinite amount of these colorful pets, and once they run out they won't be coming back. Head over to Happy Pets to adopt yours today.

Happy Earth Day!

FarmVille Chocolate Cow spotted on a farm

Posted: 22 Apr 2010 08:05 AM PDT

FarmVille Freak Devos spotted a Chocolate Cow in the wild, and on a neighbor's farm!

If you remember, the Chocolate Cow was an unreleased item that surfaced around the time of Easter (March 31st) and was never officially released. However, this is not the first sighting of one on an actual farm, FarmVille Freak Pookie spotted one on April 1st.

We have confirmed this sighting for ourselves, and FVFreak moderator and blogger Cabbage Patch Kid visited the Level 26 farmer's farm herself and captured the following screen shot. It is not photo-shopped or altered.
FarmVille Chocolate Cow
Out of respect for the neighbor, we will not post the link to their farm to prevent intrusion by our whole FVFreak community

Do you have a Chocolate Cow, if so how did you get it?

Quote of the Moment: Numbers

Posted: 22 Apr 2010 08:00 AM PDT

"How did a Facebook skeptic like me become a believer? Numbers. It's hard to ignore 400 million users (50% active), more than 5 billion pieces of content shared each week and games that have turned into goldmines.

Our game Mahjongg Dimensions launched on Facebook in January 2010, currently has 1.3 million monthly active users (MAU) and is adding 30 thousand new players per day. This may sound like a pittance compared to games like Farmville (and it is) but it's still dramatic growth. To compare, a game website I've had online for seven years, and put an equally small amount of marketing dollars behind, has 400,000 unique visitors per month. So with Facebook, one game was able to achieve in two months what a website with 100 games couldn't do in seven years. A stat like that makes it easy for anyone to become a believer.

Granted not all games and all apps will succeed on Facebook, as evidenced by the thousands that languor with 500 MAU or less. But for those who take the time to create something unique, fun, and viral there is no better platform to be a part of right now. Marketers who until now have only dipped their toes in the water are (rightly) jumping in head first."

-Arkadium President and Co-Founder Jessica Rovello explains how Facebook's unrivaled viral marketing power won her over.

Cafe World Stove and Mohawk Patron
PetVille released another Cafe World collectible a few hours ago, the Cafe World Stove, while time is running short for the previous item, the Mohawk Patron. Right now, there's less than 13 hours before that one's off the gifts page.

Eight of the earlier items have been the Patron, Chair, Counter, Table, Patroness, Cafe World's Waitress Amelie, Seating Sign, and Ficus Tree. And that's a wrap!
