Bubble Town on Facebook April Fool's prank: The 'Impossible Level' Posted: 01 Apr 2010 12:00 AM PDT Bubble Town on Facebook, the popular bubble popping game from i-Play, kicks off April Fool's day by presenting players with 'Impossible Level.' Today only, everyone who visits the game will be able to take a crack at solving this impossible level of the game for the chance to win 100,000 Bubble Bucks, the game's virtual currency. *SPOILER* Of course, this is April Fools' Day, so once players will inevitably lose this challenge -- it is called 'impossible' for a reason, ya know -- and will, subsequently, lose the 100K Bubble Bucks. *Insert sad face here* Defeated players will be informed that they have been pranked, and will have that frown turned upside down when they're given 500 Bubble Bucks(!) for being good sports. Players will then be able to pass the Impossible Level on to friends (for an additional 100 Bubble Bucks). "We know how much our players love a challenge and we wanted to give them an offer they couldn't pass up. And while some of our expert players can beat any level they come across - this one is truly impossible," says Tony Leamer, I-play's Marketing VP. "The best part is that everyone wins - the player who is pranked receives 500 Bubble Bucks to spend on power-ups or for level packs and when the player pranks their friends he or she receives even more Bubble Bucks." Even though it's April Fool's Day -- this prank actually turns out to be pretty decent in the the end -- you can buy quite a few power-ups with all of those newfound Bubble Bucks. Try your hand at the Bubble Town Impossible level and put your bubble popping skills to the ultimate test. Play Bubble Town Party Planet on Facebook > Did you try to beat Bubble Town Party Planet's Impossible level? How far did you get?

FarmVille celebrates April Fools' Day with Toilet Paper prank Posted: 31 Mar 2010 08:00 PM PDT FarmVille Toilet Paper Roll Icon FarmVille Toilet Paper Roll Notice April 1st is April Fools' Day and FarmVille is in the spirit of trickery by gifting every farmer free Toilet Paper! Toilet Paper can be found in your FarmVille Gift Box and every farmer will receive one roll for free. FarmVille Toilet Paper in Gifts FarmVille Freak Xavier's Toilet Paper a Friend Notice You can then use your Toilet Paper to TP a neighbor's farm, specifically their Barn. You are only able to TP Barns. Nice job Zynga gods. In the United States, Toilet Papering or T.P.ing is considered a prank or a joke. You use the Toilet Paper to "wrap" someone's house, trees, or buildings. Read more about it below. "Toilet papering (also called TP'ing, House Wrapping or Yard Rolling) is the act of covering an object, such as a tree, house, or another structure with toilet paper. This is typically done by throwing numerous toilet paper rolls in such a way that they unroll in mid-air and thus fall on the targeted object in multiple streams. Toilet papering is not uncommon in the United States and frequently takes place after the completion of a school's homecoming football game and graduation, as well as on Halloween. In some states in the United States, such as Texas and Virginia, toilet papering is considered an act of mischief or vandalism. Yet in some states, such as California and Minnesota, it is legal and cannot be fined.[citation needed] Toilet papering can be done as an initiation, joke, or as a somewhat malicious (yet generally harmless) prank. Teachers, friends, school buildings, and other figures are popular targets for toilet-paperers. Although typically a homecoming prank in many areas, TPing is done all year round and is especially tricky to clean up after it has been rained on.[citation needed] Ring of Honor wrestler Jimmy Rave has fans who throw toilet paper whenever he makes an entrance. FarmVille glitch: 'Gift data not found' Posted: 31 Mar 2010 12:00 PM PDT Over the past few days, I've been receiving a random error when accepting gifts -- as in recent gifts, sent well in advance of the two-week expiration date -- from my FarmVille friends. I'll be in the middle of accepting gifts -- bouncing back and forth between the game and the notifications area on Facebook -- and then occasionally receive an error message that says 'This gift data not found.' This has happened several days in a row -- has anyone else seen anything like this?

Social News Wrap: Melons, Gorillaz and Food Wars Posted: 31 Mar 2010 10:15 AM PDT Playdom Announces Acquisition of Three Melons: The already super-sized social game developer grows even larger by purchasing yet another small developer, this one a 45-person Argentinian company that has helped with 50 third-party games and also makes proprietary game development software. Farmville's Co-op Farming revolves around specific, timed jobs Posted: 31 Mar 2010 09:30 AM PDT If you didn't have time to listen to Monday's Official Farmville podcast, you may have missed some crucial details about the new co-operative play option coming to the game soon. The biggest revelation is that co-operative play will be focused on specific timed jobs, not on general farming. You'll be able to request help for each of these jobs from your neighbors, and they'd better answer the call quickly, because each job will have a strict time limit. The faster you and your neighbor complete the jobs, the better medals you'll receive (gold, silver or bronze) and the better rewards you'll receive with it. In fact, the podcast promises that gold medal performances will come with a "very special prize." There are still a lot of unanswered questions surrounding co-op play -- when exactly it will launch, how it will be controlled, whether both players will have to be online at the same time to take part -- but these hints have us eager to learn more. As soon as we hear it, you'll hear it here.

Indian firms lead survey of social network blockers Posted: 31 Mar 2010 09:00 AM PDT People wasting time with Facebook and other social networks at work is a major problem for companies around the world, but different countries have different ways of dealing with it. This much is apparent from a recent Cisco study showing highly variable levels of social network blocking policies among different countries. India led the nations surveyed, with a whopping 96 percent of IT decision makers saying their company disallowed social media sites at the workplace. Chinese companies, surprisingly, had the least restrictive IT policies, with only 21 percent of firms blocking social media sites, perhaps because the country itself already has myriad restrictions on online access. Overall, 52 percent of firms in the study didn't allow social media sites to be used at work. But that didn't dully stop eager users -- 50 percent of employees in the study said they ignored their company's policy, with 27 percent actively changing settings to get around the prohibitions. Does your workplace have a policy banning social networks? Do you follow that policy? [Via SocialTimes]

Hotel City on Facebook: Players can now use real-life dollars to buy virtual coins, cash Posted: 31 Mar 2010 06:00 AM PDT Hotel City on Facebook has turned on the ability to use real-life cash to buy additional virtual coins or cash for the game. Hotel owners who want to get a leg up in the game can choose to buy additional coins/Playfish cash (via two buttons in the upper left hand side of the game screen) using credit cards, PayPal, Facebook Credits or by charging it to their cell phone bills. Players can also -- via TrialPay -- sign up for certain services in exchange for free coins. Using services like TrialPay and Offerpal been a little touch and go in the past, but the current list of direct marketing offers in Hotel City seem to be on the level (or as on the level as these kind of things can get). A nice cash/coin purchasing addition, you can use Playfish Cash to buy coins, so if your mom, friend or whomever gives you a Playfish Cash Card, you can use it to buy premium items or convert it into coins instead -- your choice. Have you ever signed up for a service to get free virtual cash/coins for a game? Is it really worth it?

Zynga on early end to La Maison supplies gifting Posted: 31 Mar 2010 04:00 AM PDT La Maison building and supplies were part of a limited event. Many farmers were upset when the La Maison free supplies accessed through the FarmVille Gifting page ended early. The Maison supplies are required to complete the building. Since they were retired from the Gifting Page, the only way to get additional supplies to finish your La Maison building is to purchase them with farm cash from the FarmVille Market. Zynga's FarmVille Community Manager Lexilicious has addressed the unintentional early end to La Maison Gifting below: "Hey Farmers, The FarmVille team is aware of the fact that the La Maison gifts expired last night, which was earlier than intended. Please know that the early expiration of the La Maison gifts was an unintentional bug that occurred with last night's release. The FarmVille developers are currently working on rectifying this issue as soon as possible. To minimize the inconvenience to our users, once the La Maison items are fixed, we will extend the amount of time they are available to compensate for time lost. The La Maison gifts will expire on April 1st at 9 pm PST. I will make sure to update the community accordingly as more information becomes available to me. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this problem may have caused you and we would like to thank you for your patience and understanding with us during this time. If you have an comments you would like to make about this situation, please make sure to post in the following thread: http://forums.zynga.com/showthread.php?t=485868 Thanks everyone!" Hotel City Cheats & Tips: Six easy ways to get ahead Posted: 31 Mar 2010 01:30 AM PDT Much like Playfish's Restaurant City, Hotel City gives you the opportunity to test your skills at managing a virtual business -- in this case a hotel. Your goal is to take a small hotel and turn it into a luxury 5-star destination, by building and furnishing different types of rooms. You can also put your friends and family to work as receptionists, maids and other hotel staff, while you do more important things like shopping for Italian leather sofas and comparing wallpaper designs. Released in mid-March, Hotel City is Playfish's 11th game on Facebook. With about 122,000 users, Hotel City is off to slow start, but playing for a few minutes shows that this game has managed to recapture the magic that gives Pet Society, Restaurant City that extra special something. When getting started with Hotel City, here are six tips that will put you on the fast track to making your hotel a world-class destination. 1. Start by adding a bunch of budget rooms to your hotel. You want visitors to stay and pay, so the more rooms you have, the more money your hotel will earn. Your star rating also improves as you build more rooms, and you'll be able to unlock and add cooler features faster, i.e. a fancy restaurant or a big swimming pool. 2. Like Playfish's Pet Society, visiting your friends every day yields coins and points. Look for the pink "New" sign or the gold coins icon next to your friends' photos. Visiting a new hotel earns you 1,000 coins, while the bag of gold coins gives you 400. Also keep an eye out for the maid's tip jar in your neighbor's hotels, which will bring in an additional 500 coins. 3. Poke the sleeping guests. Some will yield coins and points, and even if they don't, it's still worth poking them to see their funny reactions. 4. Keep the staff working so your hotel is running 24-7. Many potential customers are lost if there's no receptionist to greet them at the door. You can do this by keeping an eye on the time at the bottom left-hand side of the screen. Come back when time's up and put your staff to work again. 5. Banish dust balls and keep the rooms spotless. If ignored, the rooms can become infested with cockroaches (gross!). The best way to keep things clean is to buy a maid's room in the very beginning of the game. 6. Spend money in order to make money. Invest your coins into luxe wallpaper, furniture and accessories for each room. Your star rating will go up, as will your nightly room rate. You can see how individual rooms rate by placing the cursor over each and eyeballing the progress bar that goes from red (needs more decor) to green (A-OK) for each room. That extra coin will go towards unlocking features such as restaurants, bars and swimming pools for a 5-star rating. Do you have any additional Hotel City tips or looking for other people to play the game with? Let everyone know in the comments below.
