Barn Buddy releases two new crops, radishes and clover Posted: 28 Apr 2010 09:00 PM PDT Barn Buddy might be one of the lesser talked-about farming games, but it's no slouch. Barn Buddy has over 3 million monthly players, which is a respectable number for sure. It takes the basic farming mechanic and adds a layer of complexity on top, including multiple harvests for crops, and weed and bug killing. Today, they have released two new short term crops to the shop: clover and radishes. Clover are a short term 5 minute crop available for 40 coins that have an output of 15 at 3 coins per unit. Radishes are a one hour crop that cost 120 coins, output 15 every harvest, and give 9 coins per unit. Both of these crops are good for times when you know you'll be able to come back in a short while. Do you play Barn Buddy? Are you enjoying the new crop?

FishVille releases next set of Fanta-Sea Forest items Posted: 28 Apr 2010 04:43 PM PDT FishVille has just rolled out the next batch of limited time Fanta-Sea Forest decorations, and it even includes a narwhal! These new decorations are an improvement over the last set, in our opinion, but you'll have to dish out some Sand Dollars if you want to complete this collection. All but three of the new items are only available with Sand Dollars, so you will have to buy some if you haven't earned enough through playing. Here are the new items: The full list is as follows: Baby Narwahl - 22 Sand Dollars Mamma Dragon - 12 Sand Dollars Pumpkin Carriage - 10 Sand Dollars Orange Fairy - 8 Sand Dollars Frog Commander - 8 Sand Dollars Mystic Wizard - 6 Sand Dollars Earthen Pool - 4 Sand Dollars Dwarf Mimo - 3 Sand Dollars Dwarf Mago - 3 Sand Dollars Pink Crystal Ball - 100,000 coins Wise Owl - 50,000 coins Black Musketeer - 90,000 coins The Narwahl is absolutely huge as you can see from the picture on the right. You'll have to have plenty of room in your fish tank if you wish to purchase one. The Orange Fairy is just another tint of the fairies that have already been released. These items are limited time like the rest of the Fanta-Sea set, but the Narwahl is only available for less than 6 days as of this writing. This makes us believe that the Fanta-Sea items should be around for a bit longer than that. What do you think of the new set of Fanta-Sea Forest decorations?

Mall World goes classy and sassy with two new collections Posted: 28 Apr 2010 04:32 PM PDT Two new collections have been released today in Mall World, one casual and one formal. The Sassy Gurlz set is a cute pair of gray jeans with a striped fitted tee, and the Print's Charming set is a tiny little baby doll dress and matching bag that will impress all of your customers. Each of the pieces shown in the above image can be bought separately for your store, and you can buy them in however large of a quantity you want (or you can afford). Both of these outfits are adorable and fashionable for the spring and summer months. Which of these two new snazzy outfits will you be buying in Mall World?

Garden Life celebrates Arbor Day with five new trees Posted: 28 Apr 2010 04:20 PM PDT Garden Life has just released a new set of five different trees in celebration of Arbor Day. Arbor Day is a holiday that originated in the United States in the late 1800's that encourages everyone to plant and care for trees. Garden Life is about as perfect of a match as it gets when it comes to caring for and cultivating nature, so it's only fitting that Arbor Day is being celebrated. Here are the new trees: Magnolia Tree - Level 16, 885 coins Walnut Tree- Level 19, 952 coins Lime Tree - Level 22, 1066 coins Crabapple Tree - Level 25, 1114 coins Rubber Tree - Level 28, 22 gems Only one of these new trees requires money to buy, so we think this is a pretty impressive set of trees. They are labeled as "Arbor Day" in the store, so make sure to buy them before they're gone.

Cafe World holds a Cake vs. Pie showdown Posted: 28 Apr 2010 03:56 PM PDT An official cake vs. pie showdown has just gotten underway in Cafe World, and we're here with the play-by-play. The good folks over on Cafe World are asking the players to vote for their favorite pie or cake in various wall posts, and there is even a bracket to keep track of the winners. Right now, the pie bracket has been chosen to go first and they are slowly making their way through the first few match-ups. The first match-up today was Strawberry Pie vs. Mud Pie, and Strawberry won by a landslide according to Cafe World. The current face-off is Peanut Butter Pie vs. Chocolate Macadamia Nut Pie. You can vote by clicking here to choose which is your favorite! Which will you be voting for?

Tiki Resort introduces air shipments of charms Posted: 28 Apr 2010 03:37 PM PDT Tiki Resort have just launched a new feature - the ability to buy air shipments of PIneapple Charms. These charms typically will increase the money that is spent by tourists on your island, and they are generally available in the Shop for 22 Facebook Credits. This new method of attaining the happiness charms only requires shells instead of Facebook Credits, but it will require some patience. Shipments in Tiki Resort work as follows: You purchase the delivery that you want, and then you have to wait until the air shipment drops. Once it drops, you have to come back to claim them before they spoil. The more charms you want, the longer you'll have to wait. Here is the list of deliveries: 5 Minute Delivery - 1 Pineapple Charm, 6000 shells 2 Hour Delivery - 3 Pineapple Charms, 8000 shells 12 Hour Delivery - 5 Pineapple Charms, 10000 shells 24 Hour Delivery - 10 Pineapple Charms, 20000 shells This seems like a nice option for those who want to obtain charms but aren't willing to purchase Facebook Credits to do it. Perhaps we'll see other charms in here in the future, or more sizes of shipments. At this point, it is unclear exactly how long you have after the shipment has been delivered before the fruit will spoil. If you know, leave a message in the comments.

Facebook game loading troubleshooting guide Posted: 28 Apr 2010 01:00 PM PDT In a perfect world, everything would work all the time. But since that isn't always the case, we have a guide to help you out. Are you struggling to load into your favorite Facebook game? Trying to play a new game for the first time and you can't figure out why you can't get in? Are you having any other strange issues with loading into a Facebook game and you're unsure how to solve it? Read this guide on how to troubleshoot common loading errors with games and applications on Facebook. Step 1: Check your firewall settings While it is always a good thing to have your computer protected from viruses and trojans, some times firewall and antivirus software can interfere with loading into Facebook games. Many games that use Flash (such as FarmVille, PetVille, and most other games on Facebook) require you to have certain ports open at all times for sending and receiving data. It is not uncommon for software firewalls such as Norton or McAfee to block these ports, which will prevent loading into a game. Most times, you can either lower the security on your firewall or allow certain applications to always have access. We would never recommend you disable your firewall, but occasionally this is needed in order to play games. If you are trying to play a Facebook game at work and having trouble loading, it could be a firewall issue. Most large companies have not only software firewalls like above, but also hardware firewalls. These firewalls can only be modified by the IT department at your company, and it's unlikely they would change firewall settings to enable Facebook game playing. Step 2: Try a different internet browser You might only be familiar with the internet browser that came on your computer, such as Internet Explorer (on a Windows PC) or Safari on your Mac. Many times, game developers have optimized their games for other browsers such as Mozilla Firefox. There are occasionally Flash or Facebook bugs that only affect people who use particular browsers. If you're having problems loading into a game using your current browser, try using another free browser such as Firefox or Google Chrome to see if the issue is resolved. Step 3: Clear your cache and browser cookies Another frequent problem with trying to load into a game is that your browser may be storing old data about the game that you're trying to play, which can cause errors with loading the game. There are many guides available on the internet that explain how to clear your cache, and it will change depending which internet browser you use. It's always a good idea to clear cookies as well, because this stores login information for various sites. Clearing your cookies allows the game to create a new one when you try to load in, which will help if you have stale data being stored. Step 4: Update your Adobe Flash Player If the game you are playing requires Adobe Flash, you may need to update to the latest version. Sometimes this will clear out any Flash installation problems that you may have. You can always download the latest version of Flash on Adobe's website. Step 5: Be patient and wait a few hours Sometimes, the problem won't be on your end! The game itself could be down while it undergoes maintenance. The game could be having issues that prevent everyone from loading and not just you. Or, Facebook could be slow and causing issues for multiple applications or just the game you're trying to play. Sometimes just taking a break and coming back and trying later will resolve all of the issues. Step 6: Contact the game's customer service/technical support If you have been trying repeatedly and you've checked the game's FAQs and message boards to see if your issue is known already, it may be time to contact the game developers. You can generally do this by visiting the games official website. This website can usually be found on the application page. There is also always a "Contact this application developer" link in the lower left corner of every game's fan page. It may take some time to get a response, but if you're getting frustrated and you've tried just about everything else - it may be a good time to contact support. You can either email them, or post in their forums. The advantage with posting in their forums is that it's possible that other players will get a chance to help you out before the customer service team does. Do you have any other tips for our readers? Leave them here in the comments!

Quote of the Moment: The real reason you love FarmVille Posted: 28 Apr 2010 11:00 AM PDT "The secret to Farmville's popularity is neither gameplay nor aesthetics. Farmville is popular because in entangles users in a web of social obligations. When users log into Facebook, they are reminded that their neighbors have sent them gifts, posted bonuses on their walls, and helped with each others' farms. In turn, they are obligated to return the courtesies. As the French sociologist Marcel Mauss tells us, gifts are never free: they bind the giver and receiver in a loop of reciprocity. It is rude to refuse a gift, and ruder still to not return the kindness.[11] We play Farmville, then, because we are trying to be good to one another. We play Farmville because we are polite, cultivated people." - SUNY Professor A. J. Patrick Liszkiewicz

Mooo-ve over FarmVille: Final Fantasy's coming to Facebook (maybe) Posted: 28 Apr 2010 10:30 AM PDT Get prepared for the video game revolution on Facebook, because it's going to be here in a matter of months. In addition to Electronic Arts saying that several of its blockbuster brands will be making the leap to the social network, popular PC game Civilization will be as well (in the form of Civilization Network). So it's not a big surprise to hear a Final Fantasy producer confirm that he's working on "several social games for social networking sites." If you've never heard of Final Fantasy, it's a wildly popular video game series known for its larger than life characters and epic storylines. Final Fantasy XIII arrived in the States in March and had better than expected sales its first month. In short, a Final Fantasy social game has the potential to be huge and deliver that more in-depth gaming experience that some say games like FarmVille lack. It's important to point out that there's no confirmation that these social games will actually include a Final Fantasy game, whether it will be another game series from game publisher Square Enix or something totally new. From the original article in Japanese game magazine Famitsu, Square Enix producer Takehiro Ando says "Like our approach with the iPhone, there might be basic ports of Final Fantasy, but we'd also like to challenge ourselves with new titles." Whatever these new social games are -- they are expected to arrive sometime this summer, and we hope they'll be much deeper than this Final Fantasy app that lets you gift characters from the game to your friends. PetVille debuts two new weekly challenges; one involves serious smooching Posted: 28 Apr 2010 09:00 AM PDT Every week, PetVille introduces two new challenges, and if they're complete before the week is up, you're rewarded with a special badge that you can use for bragging rights. We mostly just like these because it gives us some guidance on what to do when we log into the game. Anyhoo -- this weeks' challenges have officially kicked off. The first, Warm Welcomer, requires you to visit one (1) neighbor who is new to PetVille. For us, that requires actually getting a new PetVille neighbor, and then visiting them. Sounds pretty simple, no? The second challenge -- Smooch Fest -- requires you to visit and 'kiss' 10 neighbors this week. You can do that by visiting a neighbor's house and then clicking on the purple balloon icon on the left-hand side of the screen, which will bring up the Let's Play screen. Select Kiss from the menu (the lips icon) and let the smooching commence. Do that 10 times to complete the challenge. What do you think of the challenges in PetVille -- too hard or too easy?

Tiki Farm now playable in glorious full-screen Posted: 28 Apr 2010 08:30 AM PDT For those of you who've been wishing that you could play Tiki Farm in full-screen mode, looks like the Tiki Spirits have finally granted your wish. Staring now, you can get up close and personal with your virtual island. Close your eyes, and you might be able to feel that cool ocean breeze blowing through your hair... To activate the full screen mode -- hit the Toggle button at the top right hand corner of the screen (see image above). If you want to leave full-screen mode, simply hit the Esc button to go back to the standard view. We tested out the new full-screen mode and the graphics looked fine, and we were able to tend to our island crops as per usual, so we give this enhancement two palm-fronds up. What do you think -- will you use Tiki Farm's new full-screen mode?

SPP! Ranch debuts Mother's Day and Cinco de Mayo items Posted: 28 Apr 2010 07:00 AM PDT SPP! Ranch has released a massive set of new decorations in celebration of not just one holiday, but two! Both Mother's Day and Cinco de Mayo are next week, and we all know games prepare us a long time in advance for holidays! Mother's Day is of course the day we honor mothers all over the world, and Cinco de Mayo is a holiday in Mexico that celebrates the Mexican army's victory over the French on May 5, 1862. These holidays make for pretty neat decorations, so you can expect to see both of these holidays popping up in all of your favorite games! Take a peek at the list of new items in SPP! Ranch: Cactus & Hat - 100 coins Popping Chick Bouquet - 25 gold Popping Piglet Bouquet - 25 gold Flower Shaped Floor Tiles - 50 coins, in different colors Baking Bunny Plushie - 500 coins Mexican Sheep Plushie - 500 coins Yellow Table - 150 coins Blue Table - 150 coins Pink Table - 150 coins White Wooden Chair - 75 coins Brown Wooden Chair - 75 coins Blue Gift Box House - 7500 coins Red Gift Box House - 7500 coins Pink Gift Box House - 7500 coins Pink Plastic Flower - 150 coins Plastic Flower - 150 coins Plastic Flower Statue - 150 coins Heart Fence - 100 coins Heart Fence Corner - 125 coins Virgin Margarita - 25 coins Mother's Day Babies - 35 gold Tall Palm Tree - 450 coins Mother's Day items seem to be kind of tricky to depict in these games, so we're seeing some rather creative ideas happening. It's great that most of these items are coins, because it doesn't appear that any are really unique enough to spend cash on. We're sure many people will find something affordable and nice in this new set. Log in to SPP! Ranch to see all of these ranch decorations!

FarmVille travels to the Southwest with brand new theme Posted: 28 Apr 2010 06:42 AM PDT Late Tuesday night, FarmVille has released the first few items of what is sure to be an expansive American Southwest theme. This set is a desert-inspired theme, allowing FarmVille players to transform their entire farm into a throwback to the Old West. There are three new buildings in this set, including an Adobe Farmhouse, Adobe Barn, and an Adobe Shed. There are many decorations, and also an entire Desert Plains landscape that will change all of your grass into sand (similar to the Snow Blanket landscape). There is even a Jackrabbit animal for 12 Farm Cash. Let's take a peek at the items: If you're paying close attention, you pay notice that almost all of these items aside from a wall, ladder, and the landscape are only available for Farm Cash. This seems like one of the "greedier" FarmVille releases as of late. While it does seem great to have all of these storage buildings and desert decorations, they definitely come at a price that not all can afford. We're sure that more is coming though, it's typical of FarmVille to stage these releases so that they come in at a slow trickle rather than all at once. Perhaps this is the majority of the Farm Cash items? Time will tell! What do you think of the selection and prices so far? What do you hope is released in this theme next?

PetVille: New Mimichu collection starts with mouse plushie Posted: 28 Apr 2010 06:30 AM PDT PetVille has just announced a whole new gift collection, and the very first gift has been released. The Mimichu set appears to be a collection of items representing one adorable little mouse whose name we're presuming is Mimichu! The first item is a little Mimichu Plushie, and it is currently available to send to friends on your gifts page. Each collectible item in this set will be available for only 2 days each, so you'll want to beg your friends for the Mimichu Plushie before it is gone! In addition, PetVille Community Manager MaiLau has said that this collectible set is just a hint to what the next big theme will be. We're not sure what that means, but perhaps it's a mouse theme? Or a Japanese anime cartoon theme? Players are already excited about Mimichu, calling it one of the cutest gifts yet. We're looking forward to what else PetVille has in store in this collection. If the screenshot above is any indicator, we could be expecting a wall clock, an alarm, a poster, and more. What do you think the next PetVille theme will be?

FarmVille Desert Plains offers farmers a change of scenery Posted: 28 Apr 2010 06:00 AM PDT If you are tired of your FarmVille farm being covered in beautiful green pastures or snow, you can now upgrade your farm to have a lovely blanket of sand! You may purchase the FarmVille Desert Plains in the FarmVille Market for 1,000 coins. It can be found under the "Upgrade Farm" tab in the market. If you want to return your farm to normal (Green Pastures) you will have to re-purchase it for 1,000 coins. This article originally appeared on FarmVille Freak.

Fish World goes down to the farm with new theme Posted: 28 Apr 2010 05:00 AM PDT We thought we'd seen it all, but apparently there is always something that can surprise us! Fish World has just released an underwater farm set complete with cows, trees, horses, and sheep. That's right, you can have a whole barnyard for your fish tank! Sounds silly if you ask us, but hey - you can never have too many farm animals! Here is what you can expect to find in the Fish World shop: Tree - 5 Fishbucks Fence - 325 coins Farm Horse - 5 Fishbucks Apple - 130 coins Plant - 780 coins Cow - 4 Fishbucks Lamb - 4 Fishbucks Shovel - 845 coins Piggie - 3 Fishbucks Chicken - 3 Fishbucks Dog - 3 Fishbucks Donkey - 4 Fishbucks Cat - 3 Fishbucks Ducky - 650 coins Pitchfork - 1138 coins Corn - 260 coins Pail - 650 coins Milk - 520 coins Orange - 130 coins Lemon - 130 coins Farm Background - 3 Fishbucks We can't help but notice that almost all of the animals except the Ducky are only available for Fishbucks, which requires real world cash. This is disappointing, because most of these coin items will seem oddly out of place without the paid items along with them. Either way, there may be some gems available here if you were looking to make a farm inside your aquarium in Fish World.
