New PetVille mini-game: Find the four-leaf clovers for good luck (i.e. coins, free loot) Posted: 13 Mar 2010 04:30 AM PST PetVille's getting into the St. Patrick's Day spirit by tasking players with finding four-leaf clovers in a brand new mini-game. If you see a big green clover hanging around your pet's house, click on it and that will launch a game, and the goal of this game is to pick which patch contains the lucky four-leaf clover. You have three tries, and if you choose correctly, you will be rewarded with special St. Patty's Day loot. We scored a hilarious SPD Bonus Irish Hat -- a drinking hat that holds two green beers (straws included). Others have found the following: a Clover Cake, Kiss Me I'm Irish balloon, SPD Bonus Mini Spats, Beverage barrel, green balloon with white shamrocks. a gold coin, and a pint-sized mug. What items did you get when you found the four-leaf clover?

FarmVille gifts now expire after two weeks (worst idea ever?) Posted: 13 Mar 2010 04:00 AM PST If you're one of those players who let your gifts sitting dormant on your Facebook page for weeks before accepting them -- you might have to change your ways. Gifts now have a built-in time limit and after two weeks, you'll no longer be able to accept them. If you ask us, gifting in FarmVile and other Facebook games need a complete overhaul. Bouncing from a Facebook page, to a game and then back again to receive gifts is -- at its best -- slow and cumbersome. We're not thrilled with the idea of our gifts expiring, but if this means that bigger gifting changes are on their way, guess we can deal with this in the meantime. Source: Official FarmVille Forums

Cafe World Wedding Cake: Build a big cake for a big reward Posted: 13 Mar 2010 02:00 AM PST Log into Cafe World today, and you may be greeted with a teary-eyed bride and her Ruined Wedding. It's your choice whether you want to help the distraught bride by making her a cake, and if you choose to help, you'll have 14 days to wrangle your friends to put her cake together and ... save the day. Of course, you're also promised a 'BIG' reward if you complete this mission... Once you agree to help, you'll be directed to build the cake. A wedding cake rack will appear in your cafe, and you'll also post a notification on your Facebook wall asking friends to send you the ingredients required to construct this giant confection. The ingredients include batter, icing and decorations, which can be gifted from friends -- or you can just buy them using Cafe Cash. We think buying the items ruins the spirit of the game, but it's also understandable if you're tired of asking friends for help building things in Cafe World, FarmVille and Zynga's other games. If you want to help out your friends with a cake, look for the notification below on your news feed. A special thinks to Cafe World fan Darlin6983 for the images. Then once you click 'Help out' on the news item, you'll be taken to a screen that will confirm your help and let you vote what kind of cake it will be -- chocolate or red velvet. Yum, red velvet is the best! If you want extra help getting all of the ingredients, let others know by asking for help (and a list of what items you need) below.

Poker Blitz from Zynga: The 'poker game for the masses' Posted: 13 Mar 2010 01:00 AM PST For those who aren't poker pros but still want to try their hand at a less intimidating version of this classic card game, Zynga Casino General Manager Har 'Sim" Mimran says his team is launching Poker Blitz, a new "poker game for the masses." While Sim was tight-lipped on the exact details of the game, he tells us that "Poker is a hard genre for a small niche of people ... we thought, 'How can we bring poker to the masses and get people addicted?" Sim says Poker Blitz will be much easier to play than the TexasHoldEm game and will allow anyone to start playing within 30 seconds. If you're new to poker, the game will hold your hand while you learn how to play. Much like PopCap's Bejeweled Blitz, which Sim says was a big inspiration for the game, the poker rounds will be timed and players will be able to use power-ups that will, for instance, let players swap cards with their opponents. There will also be some kind of team aspect to the game, though the details on that are still a little fuzzy. Zynga Poker Blitz was initially set to arrive this past week, but Social Game Central says that the date has been moved 'til next week. Casino game have also been proving very popular lately, with both Poker Madness and Roulette Madness climbing the charts. We expect Poker Blitz will just be one of many casino games Zynga will be releasing this year.

Looks like the hotel-themed game might be arriving on Monday, and the Hotel City Facebook fan page is live, with a few pieces of art and a little more information on the game. Looks like this will be a full-fledged hotel simulation game where you will start out with a 'small-time' hotel and then turn it into a five-star luxury palace ready to serve well-heeled customers. See the complete description below: Playfish's Hotel City Facebook fan page is now live if you want to check it out (and bookmark the game, so you'll have easy access once it goes live). Stay tuned for more info as we have it!

Mafia Wars skill points just got much easier to spend Posted: 13 Mar 2010 12:00 AM PST There's nothing more rewarding than growing stronger via leveling up in Mafia Wars -- but for those who are devoted energy players or fighters -- adding all of those skill points can be an exercise in excessive clicking. Now Mafia Wars makes it easier to level up by allowing virtual mobsters to add five points at once to a certain category. I am, for instance, more of an energy player than a fighter, so this makes it much easier to just assign points quickly and then move onto the next thing. If you like to spread your skill points around, you can still do that too by adding +1 at a time to any category -- but just be aware that if you want to spend it all in once place, this skill point tweak will make it that much easier. What kind of Mafia Wars player are you? Fighter or energy player?

Playfish's Hotel City launching Monday, March 15? Posted: 12 Mar 2010 09:00 AM PST This week, we happened to catch a glance of a new Playfish game -- Hotel City -- during CEO Kristian Segerstrale's speech about the benefits of free games. A rep for the company reluctantly confirmed that the company responsible for Pet Society and Restaurant City, are hard at work on a hotel-themed game. Today, we discovered a Playfish forum post that indicates that Hotel City will be launching on Monday, March 15. It looks like the forum post has since been deleted, which leads us to believe that this post was either totally made up or totally legit. There's already at least one other hotel themed game on Facebook, including Happy Hotel from 6waves, which has attracted about a million monthly active users, so there's plenty of room for another one. What do you think about Playfish launching a hotel-themed game?
