FishVille Golden Ticket: Find out how it works

Posted: 23 Mar 2010 11:00 AM PDT

fishville golden ticket find out how it works
FishVille's preparing to launch a Battle Arena, where fish will (we presume) go head to head, and also has a special Golden Ticket feature in the works as well, which will allow aquarium owners to buy expensive items at a deep discount.

Right now, only a handful of players have spotted a Golden Ticket in their tanks. If you receive a Golden Ticket, it will appear at at the top of your screen. Click it and that will open the store, where select items can be purchased with your ticket. Once you see a designated item you desire, click it and then trade in your ticket, for -- ideally -- an item you'd never be able to afford otherwise.

For a full demo on how the FishVille Golden Ticket works, watch the Angel 241's video below:

Happy Aquarium: Happy "Fish Snacks", a Solution to Lonely Tanks

Posted: 23 Mar 2010 11:00 AM PDT

Happy Aquarium Happy Snacks
Log into Happy Aquarium today and you'll discover a pink canister of 200 "Fish Snacks" to feed your neighbors' fish with. It's a small change that represents a major improvement for earning coins and collecting Super Sea Shells.

One of the ways to earn coins in Happy Aquarium is to regularly visit your neighbors' tanks to scrub the glass and click on the treasure chests (called "Starter Chest" in the game). But when your neighbors are neglecting their tanks, the chests won't refill with gold, and the treasure chests sport a "Tank Needs Love" sign instead. Moreover, with the introduction of the Super Sea Shell Hunt, clicking on treasure chests have become more important than ever, as it's the ONLY way you can collect those shells.

But now, all you've gotta do is sprinkle some of that happy fish crack snack into those lonely tanks, and the treasure chests will become clickable and full of coins! Sounds questionable, doesn't it? But this solution definitely turns those dead-weight neighbors into productive, gold-producing members of Happy Aquarium once again.

FishVille Battle Arena fish swarm in-game store

Posted: 23 Mar 2010 10:00 AM PDT

FishVille is in the process of launching a special Battle Arena, where -- from what we can tell -- you will buy certain fish, train them and then send them into battle. While the details on this new feature is a little hazy, the actual fish that will be doing battle have arrived in the store.

Right now, there's five battle fish in all -- two cost coins and the rest require a small investment of a few Sand Dollars.

We assume that these battle fish each have their own unique abilities, though we can't tell exactly what those are at the moment.

FishVille's popularity has been on the decline in recent weeks, so a new Battle Arena feature that lets your fish go head-to-head with friend's fish might be the killer app this aquarium game needs to keep its head above water.

Know if these fish have their own abilities? Leave a comment below!

FishVille Battle Arena (?) appears and then disappears again

Posted: 23 Mar 2010 09:00 AM PDT

FishVille is apparently in the process of rolling out a new features for the game, called the Battle Arena, and some players had the chance to test out this new mode in the game for a brief period of time.

From what we can tell, the Battle Arena involve buying a battle fish and then training it by -- from what we can tell -- feeding them special Training Foods. It also sounds like players will need to set aside a tank for battling, and there will be special 'battle' decor as well.

Know anything about FishVille Battle Arenas or have any pictures of them? Please send them to libe@games.com, and we will post them here.

Happy Pets: 25 New Dogs with 7 New Breeds

Posted: 23 Mar 2010 08:30 AM PDT

All new Happy Pets dogs
Happy Pets has gone to the dogs, and in a good way! Twenty of the officially announced breeds are displayed in the above image, but we've counted more than that at the store. As usual, there's level restrictions on some of these pups, and prices vary, but they can be obtained through either in-game coins or Facebook Credits.
Happy Pets new dogs in store
The breeds that this roll-out introduced new designs for are: Doberman (3), German Shepherd (5), Hound Dog (5), Rottweiler (5), Husky (5), Poodle (1), and Dalmatian (1).

Regarding the last two breeds on that list, this is the first time the Poodle and Dalmatian can be bought without FB Credits. You just need to get to Level 40 for the "Brown Poodle" (which costs 3,945 Coins), and Level 45 for the "Grey Dalmatian" (which costs 3,445 Coins). But we recommend using the Mystery Boxes to try your luck, since we actually managed to nab a FB Credits-exclusive "Citrus Dalmatian" with them!

Newsweek: Social gaming is a 'strange way to spend time'

Posted: 23 Mar 2010 07:00 AM PDT

social gaming is strange??Even though FarmVille has 83 million monthly players, it's still amazing to see how much the rest of the world has yet to catch on to the fact that, yes, people play games on Facebook en masse and, yes, they're willing to collectively invest lots of time and money to do it.

At this point, this doesn't exactly seem like news anymore; the bigger story is how much social gaming will continue to grow and compete all other forms of entertainment -- not just video games, but movies, TV, music and the like.

To that point: it seems shocking to read an article titled 'Money for Nothing: The serious business of pretend products' on Newsweek.com where the author says playing social game is 'strange' and the fact that people buy items for these games is 'weird.'

If you've spent time on Facebook, you might be mystified by all the people tending to their virtual farms and virtual pets. I know I am. Not only does this seem a strange way to spend time, but here's the even weirder part: a lot of these people are spending real money to buy virtual products, like pretend guns and fertilizer, to gain advantage in these Web-based games."not only does [playing games on Facebook] seem like a strange way to spend time, but here's an even weirder part: a lot of these people are spending real money to buy virtual products, like pretend guns and fertilizer..."

The article goes on to talk about how real-life economists are trying to understand consumer behavior by studying virtual economies, but the whole 'weird' comment really struck me the most, especially coming from a prominent media outlet that has the word 'news' in its name.

Is social gaming really that 'weird,' considering that virtual goods sales netted about $1 billion in the US last year and around $7 billion in Asia, where this virtual economics model has been thriving for the past five or so years? Or, is it weird, that up to 30 million people, worldwide, login to play FarmVille every day, and that's just one of roughly 1K games on Facebook?

Instead of dubbing this popular pastime 'weird' and 'strange,' virtual economists and other business bigwigs (and even columnists) should spend less time wondering why people deign these games worthy of their time (answer: because they're fun and don't take up much of your day) and more time learning why new form of entertainment, including why so many people, for instance, are buying fewer traditional games, but seem to have no problems reaching into their pockets to pay just a little bit of cash for the privilege of playing on of these 'strange' games on Facebook.

Happy Aquarium: Limited Edition Premium Octopus Idol

Posted: 23 Mar 2010 06:30 AM PDT

Happy Aquarium Premium Octopus Idol
If you always seem to need money in Happy Aquarium, then Crowdstar might have the answer for you: the Premium Octopus Idol, a one-day limited edition item you can purchase and solve all your money-related problems, if you have enough neighbors.

As you can see in the image above, the Premium Octopus Idol, which is only available for purchase today, will reward you with coins every time you clean your neighbors' tanks.

However, the price is really high in my opinion, 108 FB$ or 130 Pearls, which means that you'd have to pay around $11 for it. I think I can get the money the classic Happy Aquarium way, by breeding and selling fish.

What do you think, though? Will you be purchasing the Premium Octopus Idol?
